[Kirsten's Point Of View:]
I winced. Every struggle seemed to make my leg get caught into more debris.
I heard footsteps from the other end of the hallway.
Okay. I'm ready to let go.
Wait no.
Two hands moved down the sides of my figure.
In a few seconds, I was lifted out of the drainage. Hayes had a tear-stained face.
His lips fell into the space between my eyebrows.
"I'm never going to let you go ever again."
He picked me up and onto his back.
This was too much for me to process.
This seemed like a much longer time to process what Hayes had said.
I wrapped my arms around his neck, pulled my legs around his waist and lay my head on his right shoulder.
Wait. I really cannot think straight. Hayes?
I decided to focus on another event that was happening.
That's when reality hit me. There's a monster chasing us.
No. I still cannot get my mind off the 9 words he said. I'm never going to let you go ever again.
He sounds like #BoyfriendGoals.
But. It's still not 'us'.
It's was always you and me.
He continued to freerun through the cluttered hallways of the bunker and finally got to the entrance.
I got off his back and pulled him into a hug.
I still cannot grasp the situation unfolding before my eyes.
1. We were chased by a monster.
2. Hayes is acting like the most PERFECT BOYFRIEND. (smfh)
3. I'm still trying to differentiate if the feelings I'm feeling now is for Hayes, or for him saving me.
Bridgette pressed a button on the control panel to lock the creature in.
Bitterly cold wind stung our face. Puddles, big and small, gathered all over the place.
We were panting, gasping and sweating despite the cold rain and winds.
Though we were tired, the experience running away from a badly mutilated corpse kept us awake.
We got into the minivan, soaked in perspiration and rainwater.
Hayes started the engine and we were on our way back to Los Angeles.
Drowsy and weary, I drifted off to sleep without even realizing that I had fell asleep on Hayes' lap.
After two hours, I woke up and Hayes had pulled over at the parking lot of 7-Eleven.
I stroked the sides of his cheeks with both of my hands. He looks so cute in his sleep.
I rested on his lap again, and began to think about those 9 words.
[Hayes' Point Of View:]
I finally woke up. Kirsten's head is still on my lap. She got up and looked at me.
"Did you mean that?". Being really confused about everything right now, I asked, "Mean what?"
"Like what you said about not wanting to lose me again."
"Oh. I'll have to tell you straight. It's been 6 years. Amazing ones. You're the longest girl I've been with as a friend and I've been crushing on you for four years. I.. Love. You."
She got out of the car. She paced to and fro for 6 minutes. It stopped and she went to the back of the car and to my side of the car.
I opened my door and hugged her. It was so warm, it made me forget what one heck of a night I've had with her.
Kirsten put her lips on my ear and whispered, "I love you too. I guess we've been holding this in for a long time."
We walked to the back of the car and opened the trunk. Both of us sat down on the carpet inside the trunk.
It was weird, finally knowing how she felt about me. But it was also something I really wanted.
It was too awkward, counting the number of seconds that passed us by.
"You weren't scared at all! You even fell asleep on my. Uhm. Lap."
I let out a light chuckle. She replied saying.
"I didn't plan to wake up."
Wow. Sarcastic.
"Really?"
"Okay fine. One. You are annoying. So annoying, it was too much, it woke me up. Two. I had a dream about the creature thing. Ugh. It was disgusting as hell. Three. Cameron, Tez and Bridgette, have snores that can probably wake up the whole of L. A."
We just laughed it off.
"But hey. You know what I said about me and you. Wanna make it real?"
Her jaw dropped, repeatedly pointing to herself to me then to herself then me.
"You. Me. Us?"
Her confusion at its best.
"Yeah?"
I tilted my head and scratched the back of my neck.
We stay there for a while, our hands clasped. I lean back on the back of a seat. Above me, the sky is blank and dark, the moon covered by clouds. I find a star ahead of us, as the clouds shift, but it seems to be the only one.
"Are you sure about us?" Kirsten asked as she broke the silence.
"I've never been so sure about something. But it's you, who I want to spend everything with."
"Hmm." I speak again.
[Kirsten's Point Of View:]
He grins, and leans forward onto his knees. Framing my head with his arms, and kisses me, slowly, on my forehead, then my nose, then on my mouth.
I touch his waist and ruffle his hair.
"Well, I guess that's how its supposed to be."
Hayes pulls away gently, still having a lock of my hair.
"Will you be my girlfriend?"
Being the sarcastic bad-ass I am, I answered,
"So I haven't answered that. Wow."
"Okay. Looks like I've already gotten the answer."
[Hayes' Point Of View:]
I feel the urge, finally familiar now, that makes me want to kiss her every time I see her.
Because it now seemed infuriating being a silver of distance away from her.
Our fingers, loosely woven a moment ago, now clutch together, her palms tacky with moisture, mine rough in places where I have grabbed too many rusty pipes in the bunker.
What's it going to be like being with Kirsten?
