Chaerin's POV

"Boys, Chaerin, I want all thirteen of you to be on your best behaviour. Ms Song is coming with her daughter Joy very soon and it would be great if all of you can be well-mannered. They are from a very respectable family and manners is extremely important. I expect the best of all of you okay?" Father's tone was scarily serious and the atmosphere had a certain chill to it. What has Ms Song done to Father? However, our respect for Father's decisions came first and so, we all said 'Yes Father' in unison and headed back to our rooms.

All the boys were in matching suits and I was in a simple dress. We sprawled on three sofas in my room, waiting for the two Serious-Songs to arrive. That was a name that Baekhyun gave ever since Father described the Mother and Daughter to us. Ms Song sure wasn't like Mother and Joy sure wasn't like me.

"Father sounded weird." Tao was the first to break the silence and we all nodded our heads.

"He sounds too...serious." Suho sighed as he rested his head on Kris' shoulder.

"I have a feeling that the Serious-Songs won't do any good to our family." Somehow, I just had a bad feeling about this whole marriage thing. Something in me told me that Ms Song would change our dear Father and that Joy would change us. Ever since Mother died, Father's relationship with the thirteen of us had grown stronger as we were each other's pillars of support. We got over her death and were doing fine until Father met Ms Song. Although I've never seen her in real life, from what I've heard from Father, she was the serious type of tall, skinny woman which loved to make rules - pretty much like Cinderella's Stepmother.

"I just hope that nothing between us all changes." Luhan said sadly, adding more grey to the whole atmosphere. When I thought that nothing could get worse, I heard a slam of the main door and all the siblings rushed out to see the arrival of the Serious-Songs. There stood a pale, slender woman and a younger, pretty long-haired girl.

"Meet Ms Song Ji Eun and Ms Song Joy." Father announced. All of us bowed politely and I cringed to myself. Nothing good could come out of this. Father left the room to allow us to have some introductory session.

"Hello you twelve dearies!" Ms Song smiled fakely as she clapped her hands in delight.

"Thirteen." I corrected.

"Thirteen? I thought there were only twelve boys! Where did you come from lady?" Ms Song asked meanly as she poked my shoulder with her bony finger.

"She is our sister." Sehun snapped and Minseok jabbed him as a sign for him to watch his manners. Sehun had always been the brother that I was closest to because of the one year gap between us and our similar interests.

"No. You'll only have one sister and that is Joy." Ms Song increased her volume and brought Joy in front of her. "My dear daughter is beautiful, smart and talented like all of you dashing young men. Unlike this person here." Is she going to kick me out? Is Joy going to replace me? Brothers, why are you keeping silent? Looks like I can only depend on myself.

"So, what do you intend to do with me huh Ms Song Ji Eun?" I retorted and earned a slap from Joy.

"Don't you dare speak to Mother like that!" Joy glared at me threateningly. She, slapped me? After a few seconds, nobody spoke, even Sehun. No one will stand with me huh?

"I don't remember her being my Mother." Immediately, I felt another slap across my cheek. I didn't even know what came over me. Maybe it was the rush of hatred at the moment or the sugar rush from the ice-cream I ate before disaster struck, but something masked the pain that I felt and it was as if nothing could make me stoop down low to those two witches.

"You like slaps huh?" I chuckled. Turning around, I saw my twelve brothers staring at me with wide eyes.

"C-Chaerin-" Jongin stuttered and I laughed some more.

"You brothers sure are cowards, behaving like controlled puppets. Your sister just got slapped twice Sehun, are you really keeping quiet now?" Facing back at the mother and daughter, I continued my dangerous mocking. "Oh Ms Song, what manners you have taught your daughter. And Joy, just what have you been learning your whole life?"

"Chaerin." Chen called my name, warning me to stop. Only Chen has seen this side of me before when I protected him from bullies when we were young. Although being younger than him, I always succeeded in driving the bullies away. My method wasn't violence. I've always looked down on people who used violence as that meant that they were all brawns and no brains. None of the other brothers have seen this mean, cutting side of me before and I wasn't surprised to see their shocked faces, especially Sehun who thought that he knew everything about me.

" You little brat." Ms Song spat as she walked up to me and lifted her hand. When it descended, her eyes went wide when I lifted mine up to hold hers before it could come down upon me.

"What are you trying to do, Ms Song? Child abuse is a crime and Father said that you came from a respectable family. Were you perhaps, adopted?" Ms Song face went red with anger and her other hand rose up and hit me. I felt something trickling down my face and I touched it. Taking a look at my hand, I saw blood smeared on it and I nodded my head. "You took it this far huh? I'm bleeding you know? What am I supposed to do after you hit me? Apologise?" Ms Song came to realise that there was no way that I would ever back out of this fight. Did you think I would ever give up fighting for myself?

"You are ruining this family you little adopted brat!" Adopted? I spun around and looked at the guilt faces of my twelve brothers.

"Adopted? I am adopted? You liars." Tears formed in my eyes as I shook with anger. Next, I made the hardest choice ever in my entire life.

"I hate all of you." The last I heard were the shouts of my brothers before I slammed the door shut and ran away from the mansion. I've just left home. The night air was cold and I shivered. I'm on my own from now onwards.
