I made a portal to Brooklyn House on a random street corner that had an obelisk. I stepped back and grabbed Corin's right hand tightly with my left. We proceeded to jump through the portal.
I somehow managed to land on top of him, our hands still held tightly. He looked up at me breathlessly.
"Hi," he whispered.
"Hi," I said back, just as breathlessly. Corin then displayed his amazing talent of distracting me when I desperately needed to not be distracted. He leaned up and started kissing me again, in which I started kissing him back.
"Eva!" I heard a very familiar voice yell. I shot up off of Corin, ending the kiss. Right in front of me was the last person I expected to be at Brooklyn House.
"Dad?" I asked him, not quite sure if it was him and not quite daring to believe. He ran and hugged me and I hugged him back. I missed him. I had missed him so much.
"What are you doing here?" I asked, truly curious. "Is mom here too?"
"No she's not, but I was looking for you!" Dad said as if it was amazingly obvious. "You left rather fast at your birthday party so I thought there might have been some trouble." Then Dad's face darkened like a storm cloud and I was violently reminded of the time I kicked a hole through the $1000 dollar flat screen TV that had once been in our living room. That look meant one thing. I'm in trouble, I realized.
"What I want to know is why I came in and saw you...," Dad struggled for a moment, "mouth rubbing with a boy on the floor." His eyes flashed back and forth between Corin and me as if he couldn't decide who to verbally abuse first. I could feel myself blushing as Corin stood up behind me and took a few hesitant steps forward.
"Oh it's... Umm..." I said at a loss for words. It was truly a great time to be an absolute idiot.
"We just came through a portal and she accidentally landed on me," Corin said. "It was an accident, sir." I looked at him. He was slightly blushing. And he said my blushing is cute... I continued to stare at him until my whole mind screamed, EVA FOCUS.
"Okay," Dad said somewhat sarcastically. I could tell he didn't believe him, but he seemed pleased at being called sir so he didn't say anything.
"Oh!" I said, just remembering something. "Dad, this is Corin, son of Pluto. Corin, this is my Dad." Introductions were a very smart thing it seemed at the time.
"Son of... Pluto?" Dad asked. "So he's a demigod? But then... Why's he here?" So then I promptly had to tell dad everything that had happened since I left my birthday party. The searching, going to Camp Half-Blood seeing Percy. When I told him about Tessa and Finn he went very pale. Then I told him about the mission and England and Paris. I tried to edit out the bad stuff like the kissing and how many M&Ms Robin shoved up Bleu's nose to keep him from snoring. When I was done, dad looked rather shocked. "But then, where is everyone else? Where are the kids? Where's Felix?"
"Are they not here?" I asked, surprised. A cold feeling began to radiate through my chest.
"Not when I walked through," he replied worriedly.
"But..." I was shocked. For the first time, I realized how empty the house felt. No, was all I could think. I grabbed Corin's hand with one of mine and my Dad's with the other. Together, we made for the steps going down. They had to be here. I made my way to the infirmary. That's where they'd be. It had to be. It was the only logical explanation. Or the only one I would dwell on. I opened the door and made my way inside.
To my relief, there sat Felix, asleep in one of the chairs as well as at least ten others. I walked up to Felix and poked him hard on the shoulder, like I did every time I wanted his attention. It seemed to work. He rolled slightly in his chair and almost fell out. I poked him again, and this time he actually did fall out. He jumped to his feet really fast and held his staff in his hand. He seemed to realize who was in front of him and immediately hugged me really tight.
