It was a cool night so I just left the car windows down. If Mason finds out that we took his car he’ll kill me. I looked at Miko and he was just looking out the window. My heart jumped a beat; I haven’t driven in a year since then… Personally I could stare at Miko all night if I could. “Want to talk about the nightmare?”

“…It was about my mom.”

“You have a mother?”

“Of course I have…had a mother. I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t have a mother.”

“I was just joking...so what happened in the dream?”

“It’s was just how she died…”

“No one ever told me how she died.”

“Really,” He asked looking over at me. “I would think your mom or Co-“He stopped talking once I made a face as he said the name.

“Sorry…I know you don’t like talking about him but don’t you think it would be good for you to talk about him? Get it off your chest?”

“There’s nothing really to talk about. He left me because he found out that I wasn’t his kid.”

“Ollie showed me a picture of you when you were little.”

“Ugh I told him to through that out…”

“You looked so happy,” He turned to face me. “What happened?”

“Okay, Miko…Cole left because he found out that I wasn’t his son and he said some pretty mean things to me. That’s it nothing big…”

“It caused you pain though so it is big.”

“Doesn’t really matter,” I said when turning into the city. We lived on the outskirts of the city, Mason and Ollie used to live in the city but they thought it would be better to raise Miko away from the busy city.

“It does matter…you loved him and he just left.”

“Can we please stop talking about it?”

“Okay.”

“Now back to your dream.”

“I was hoping you would drop it…I don’t want to tell you how my mom died. It might make you think different about someone. I’ll let them tell you if it comes down to it.”  I looked at him; he was messing with the strings on his hoodie. “Art!” I looked back at the street and a car hit Miko’s side. My arm shoot in front of him holding him down in the seat. Everything moved so fast and there was only one thought that crossed my mind. Keep Miko safe.

When everything went still I looked over at Miko, my arm was still in front of him. “Are you okay?”

“Yeah I think…”

“Your head,” I moved over to him and forced him to look at me. It was once a tiny cut but I was still worried. “Are you sure you’re okay? Does anything hurt? Are you dizzy?”

“Art, I’m fine stop worrying…jeez your arm.” I looked down at my arm, it turning black and purple. It was also sticking out funny.

“It’s nothing. Are you sure you are okay? God I’m so sorry I’m a fuck up. I should have been paying attention to the road.”

“I’m fine, Art just calm down.”

“You could have died! It would have been my entire fault! I could have lost you too as I did to Lucy!”

“Who’s Lucy?”

“Hey are you guys okay?” I looked at the guy who was walking funny over to us. Was he drunk? I got out of the car and went over to him. Yup he was drunk, smelled like whiskey and beer. “Dude your car is trashed.”
