Clair's POV

December 24th

Everyone left pretty early. My parents went up to bed, i decided to stay up a little while and watch the fire in the fire place burn out.

As much as i hated to say it, it just didnt feel like Christmas right now. I didnt realise it before but i had grown extremely accustomed to Kris being here every Christmas. It was just the way it was.

I looked down at the little nutcracker in my hands. He was still smiling up at me sadly, gently i rubbed my thumb over his glossy red chest.

"I really wish the guy who baught you was here" I whispered "But dont tell him that, actually dont tell anyone that. Im supposed to hate him with a passion"

My grandmother's old antique clock chimed that it was eleven ocock. I yawned, stretching myself out on the big couch that i had claimed as my own all night. Maybe i could get away with sleeping here tonight, that way i would be the first to get to the preseants in the morning.

I tugged the blanket that was haning over the back of the couch over me. Snuggling into the big decrative pillow i clutched my nutcracker closed to me, nuzzling him close to my face.

"I wish you were here Kris" I whispered sleepily, not even comrehending the words comming out of my own mouth.

I was already asleep.

December 24th

11:59 pm

The chimming of the clock woke me up again. Looking around wildly i was shocked by how dark the room had got when the fire had burnt out.

Reaching out blindly i looked for the switch that would turn the Christmas lights on. When i found it the room was filled with warm glowing light from the Christmas tree. I wrapped the blanket i had around my shoulders. Something seemed different about the room, but i couldnt quit pinpoint what it was.

Yawning again, i reached for my nutcracker that i was sure had been lying on the couch beside me. When my hand met only the upholstry of the couch i jumped up. My nutcracker was no where to be seen!

Dropping to my hands and knee's i looked under the couch. He wasnt there eather.

"Nutcracker" I whispered "Where are you?"

"Im right here!"

My heart stopped

Turning my head slowly to the left i looked at the fire place.

Sitting on the floor, right in front of the fire place. Was my nutcracker. The only thing was, he was waving at me and there was actually some sort of expression on his face.

"Whats the matter Clair?" The little wooden man asked "You asked where i was"

I let out a little squil, fumbling backwards and getting caught up in the blanket that i had been wearing as a shall. I fell flat on my back and smacked my head on the hard wood floor.

"Ouch!" I exclaimed, rubbing the back of my head

"Are you alright?"

I looked over.

My nutcracker was standing beside me, he was the size of a barbie doll maybe. But he had managed to get over here as fast as a normal person.

"Get away!" I hissed, tossing my hand out and causing the nutcracker to go flying against the Christmas tree.

"OUCH!" He exclaimed "Stop that!"

"Are you a robot?" I demanded "Did Kris set this up to spy on me or something? where is he!"
