Click goes the key in the door. Our front door flew open quickly and me and Dad step onto the mustard yellow mouldy carpet. Dad throws the keys back into the welly boot while I place my bag by the table. I look around my house. The broken wooden stairs, mouldy carpet, garage sale furniture and then I think about Natasha's gigantic modern house, cream white walls, soft, snugly carpets and expensive limited edition furniture. Now I see why the acting school want her and not me. Suddenly there's a loud noise from the kitchen then Dad calls me.
"What's up?" I ask, walking into the kitchen. Dads standing by the table. There's letters spread across it. I begin to look at the letters. Bills, bills, grandma, newspaper stuff..
"I think your looking for this." Dad smiles and hands me a deep purple and blue envelope named Mr Barns.
"Dad, is this more bills? Ooh is it horse stuff!" I laugh. Dad shakes his head and points at the letter. I look at it, flipping it. On the back, something catches my eye. It's a purple and blue castle, drawn with water colour. It very dribble but beautiful. Beneath it, theres the letters RLAA. I know what that stand for. I turn over the envelope again and look at the small rip on the top. I look at Dad with a funny face.
"Hey. Said my name on it!" Dad grins. I laugh at him then open up the envelope. A mint white piece of paper falls out and I open it up. There are purple and blue words spread across it and another water colour picture of the castle. I read the words:Dear Mr Gregory Barns,
Following our recent visit to The Ferndown Middle School to spot talent for our next generation of actors/actresses, we were very impressed by the performance of your daughter, Daisy Kate Barns. We see huge potential in Daisy, based on her role as Juliet's mother in Romeo and Juliet, and we would therefore be delighted if she were to join us at the Royal London Acting Academy. An offer of a place will remain for acceptance for a week, starting in our summer school. Please get back to us as soon as possible.
Your Sincerely,
Dean of the academy
Mr B E MartinI stared at the letter, my mouth open, eyes wide. This. Wasn't. Happening. It must be a mistake! MY DREAM HAD COME TRUE! YAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! WHOOOP WHOOOP, WHOOOOP WHOOOP! Dad watched me celebrating and laughed.
"There's something else in there, babe." He says. I look back at the envelope. I lift it and a small piece of paper flops out.
"Go on, pick it up." Dad chuckles. Doing what I'm told, I pick it up and read it.London Waterloo
First Class Ticket
Friday 25th July 2016"ITS A TICKET!" I scream, excitedly, waving the ticket in the air.
"It sure is!" Dad chuckles. I run into him and hug him tightly. He hugs back. "It's only in 3 days, honey. I would start packing."
"What do you mean, I only need bits and bobs." I ask.
"Daisy, you live there. It's your new home."
"WHAT? But, Dad, you'll be all alone here."
"I know. I don't mind."
"Dad!" I hug my dad tightly again.
"I just want you to be happy. Because I love you." I hug my dad more, I'm never letting go.
"Dad.." I mutter.
"Come on, I'll help you pack, My Daisy berry!" Dad whispers in my ear. I smile and look up at my lovely chubby dad. He looks back at me and grins again and he takes my hand. I push it off gently.
"It's okay, Dad. You've got enough to do. I'll be ok." I stare at the bills lying on the table and Dad nods and turns away. I run upstairs and bang into my room. I look under the bed and bring out a brown, lumpy and patchy backpack which is about suitcase size. I think Mr Dunger has given this too me once, he's another of our next door neighbours. It used to be his wife's but his wife died in a car crash so he stored it up in his attic. Then, Dad and Mr Dunger were really good good friends, so when it came to my birthday, he had to get his mates daughter something. This was all he could find. I ran over to my wardrobe, went on my tipi-toes and just about reached a maroon and red over night bag. I zipped it open and began to put in my clothes. The first thing I put was my denim shorts, white top and socks. That was what I had wore last Sunday and the Sunday before that, and the Sunday before that and the Sunday- ok, you get the point. Then I grabbed my school bag and put in a black cardigan, a water proof jacket and all those bits a bobs you need to carry around. I added a waterbody me and my favourite book- Gone Girl. Im far too young to read it, but Dad told me mom loved it and I couldn't help myself. Finally, I opened my wardrobe and took out the remaining items. I took out skinny black jeans, a short sleeved pink and with mixed top nod a fake leather jacket Dad got from this band high guy or something. I went over to my bed side table and took out the special pink butterfly clip Dad has got me for my birthday. I lay it down with the outfit including creamy white socks and my handie down muddy pink converse. As I bent over to close my bag something fell out my blouse pocket. A small, fishtail loom band (rubber band/elastic band) bracelet had landed next to my butterfly hair clip and know blended in with the outfit perfectly. I remembered that bracelet, Alexa Had given it to me as a friendship bracelet. Now your wondering, why haven't you got it on? Well.. I put it on once, thinking it was extremely cool and would make me so popular, but Natasha came along and said.
"Made your self a little bracelet, Cow? Probably because you can't afford one yourself." Alexa jingled her fire bangles and expensive butterfly bracket and smirked at me. I hadn't worn it since then. I stared at my outfit and said to myself,Your gonna look beautiful.
