Chapter 4 – Putting the pieces together (Niall’s POV)

We woke up the next morning to see Katie lying on the table sleeping. I had to grin and take a photo before posting it up on Twitter, stating that she got too much homework and asking who else agreed. I got thousands of retweets in a few minutes before I logged off.

“Niall? Where is Abby and Brittany?” Liam asked me, with a hint of worry in his eyes.

I don’t know why he was so worried, it was evident that that girls could take care of themselves…did Liam have a crush on Abby?! Was he insane?

“They’re probably going onto leads, Liam. Don’t worry, I assume they’ll be back soon” Katie’s voice said, slightly muffled as she tried to cover a yawn.

“How long will they usually be?” I asked her, worried about Brittany.

“Depends on the leads. But I would say in about five minutes they’ll be here” Katie said as she stretched.

“Do you…do you think they’ll know where Perrie is?” Zayn choked out.

“One can hope, Zayn, but a kidnapping as detailed and as planned as this…it’s going to take a lot longer.” Katie said truthfully.

I sighed before slipping my hand into my pocket before feeling the smooth velvet of the ring box. Yes, I was going to propose to Brittany last night. She is my princess and I wanted her by my side as my queen. I hadn’t told anyone except for Louis who was so happy for me, he told Harry, who told Zayn, who told Liam. But only the boys know about my plan but…fate intervened.

“WE’RE HOME BITCHES!” I heard Abby call out from the corridor.

She walked in, looking exceptionally worried, but what concerned me the most was with Brittany. She seemed so torn, I pulled her into a hug to calm her down. Brittany held me tightly before letting me go and she went to get herself and Abby a cup of tea.

“So…what did you find out?” Katie asked Abby as she sipped the tea. We all watched the two girls nervously as they glanced at each other.

“Perrie definitely was up to something dangerous. She and her clique were investigating Michael Smith, a former madman who tried to explode a bomb in London many years ago. He’s changed his identity to Jacob Smith.” Abby said to Katie urgently, handing over a file on Michael Smith.

“Why on earth would Perrie be into that stuff? And who was she with?” Louis asked, completely serious.

“I think I can shed some light onto those questions. I think the papers are not codes, but formulas in a different biological language to us. Such as, the whale could represent a heavy amount of a substance? But I definitely know she was not working alone” Brittany said, giving Abby and Katie a pointed look.

“No…way….You have to be kidding me!” Abby whispered.

“Do I look like I’m fooling around here, Abby? Whatever they were up to, it was serious enough to fake deaths and kidnap. Whatever the Smith family was up to, they’re buried neck deep in it” Brittany snarled while the boys and I looked at each of them, completely confused.

“Who on earth are you talking about?” Liam asked the girls, completely baffled.

“The clique Perrie was with? The ones that are in mortal danger? They’re Eleanor and Danielle” Katie choked out, looking closely at Liam and Louis for their reactions.

(Katie’s POV)

Shock. Pure undeniable shock was written over their faces as I broke the news to them. Niall led Liam and Louis to a couch as they tried to regain their inner logic. Abby was typing casually on her phone, as if there was nothing wrong while Brittany got some food out from the fridge and laid it out.
