When Sierra woke up she knew where she was before she even opened her eyes. Her nose wrinkled at the smell of disinfectant and soap, it's odour almost stinging her as she breathed it in.
Her eyes opened and it took her a while to adjust to the bright lights above her head, but eventually she focussed her vision. She could make out the figures of 2 men which must've been Sam and Dean.
Sierra attempted to say hey to show them she was awake but it just came out as a croak and a cough. She frowned, trying to speak and all her voice came out as was a raspy whisper.
The two brothers turned sharply to her. Sam rushing over. She tried to push herself into an upright position with her good arm, wincing slightly as she did so.
"Easy there tiger," Sam put his hand on her shoulder, trying to restrict her from moving too much.
Sierra tried again to say something but couldn't and she frowned, frustrated.
"Try not to strain your throat too much," Dean spoke from behind Sam with his arms folded, "Your dad bashed you up pretty bad, he bruised your vocal cord quite a bit when he.." He trailed off, looking away at the floor and lifting his hand to scratch the back of his head slightly awkwardly.
Sierra's eyes fell slightly. She killed him. She took someone's life. She knew that he deserved it, he had no right to keep on living after what he'd done to her, her brother, her family. But she had killed him. Her first kill was her own father.
"How you feeling?" Sam asked, breaking the slight silence in the room.
Sierra shrugged and mouthed an 'okay' to him. He nodded and she nudged him and grabbed his hand. He smiled at her and she caught Dean rolling his eyes at them.
"Yeah can we save the lovey dovey crap for some other time?" He chimed in and before anyone else could respond, a new figure emerged at the door.
Sierra froze slightly, recognising the face of the doctor as she walked into the room who didn't seem to look up at first.
"Hi there i'm Dr Walker-" she began speaking but stopped when she caught my eye. She tilted her head slightly and brushed her dark red hair behind her ear, giving Sierra a short smile.
"Sierra!" She exclaimed, "It's been a long time since i've seen you back here!"
Sierra tried to avoid Sam and Dean's gaze as they sent her some puzzled looks, she turned her head away from them as the doctor made her way to the end of her bed.
"Are you feeling okay?" Dr Walker asked, checking the chart hanging off the foot of the bed.
Sierra nodded slowly and she would've spoken to try and interrupt her and avoid any further conversation but couldn't. Having no voice had never been more inconvenient than right now.
"And how about the other things? Is there anything," her eyes lifted for a split second to look up a Sierra,"else worth mentioning?" She continued, and Sierra simply shook her head. Dr Walker nodded, slightly chewing on her lower lip as she scanned the chart.
She took a short pause, the only noise was the slight rustling of paper as the doctor flipped through her file. Sierra's body remained stiff and unmoving, begging the doctor in her mind just not to mention anything else. Finally Dr Walker straightened up and addressed all of them once more.
"Well it seems like everything's okay, i recommend for you to stay overnight but you're welcome to go if you would like," Dr Walker said chirpily and as she made her way to the door she turned to Sierra one last time, "I'm glad to see you're better," she smiled
Sierra avoided both of the brother's gazes in the uncomfortable silence the room was in.
"Well she seemed to know you pretty well." Dean commented, his arms folded and his back resting on the doorframe.
Sierra shrugged as if to say, 'What's the big deal?' But Sam didn't buy it. Either way he seemed to turn the other cheek for the moment considering he knew she wouldn't be able to answer any of their questions when she couldn't talk.
"On a slightly different note," Dean continued, "Sammy we need to have a little chat,"
He beckoned for Sam to come outside and he followed hesitantly.
Sierra sank back into her bed and let out a sigh. Now what was she going to do? She had nothing left. No family, her mother, father and brother were gone. Sam was all she had now in terms of any sort of relationship and him and his brother seemed to be the type of guys not to stay in one place.
But now she knew what she wanted. She wanted to help people, she wanted to save people like her brother from monsters like werewolves and whatever else was out there. She wanted to be like the winchesters, to be a hunter.
It was about 10 minutes before the brothers came back into her hospital beds.
"Okay Sierra, you have a choice." Sam began, but Sierra held up a hand to stop him, gesturing for them to get her some paper. Sam nodded and turned around to look for something to write. Dean grabbed a pen and paper from on top of the cabinet beside him, passing it over to Sierra.
She scribbled down 6 words. 6 words which would determine her future.
'I want to be a hunter.'
She flipped it around and held it up for them to read.
Sam looked from the paper back to her and was about to say something before Dean spoke, cutting him off.
"A hunter? You don't know the first thing about hunting!" He laughed
Sierra snatched the paper down and wrote down another message angrily.
'Then teach me.'
"Sierra," sam shook his head "hunting is a lifestyle, it's dangerous as hell for one thing and once you start, you don't come out again. No-one does."
Sierra looked back at them for a moment before writing her third message.
'I have nothing else to go back to, all my family are gone. All i want to do is help people, save people like my brother. If you guys don't want to teach me fine, i'll teach myself, but if you guys don't want me to end up dead then you might as well teach me yourselves.'
As the brothers read her final message they exchanged looks. Half worried and half accepting.
Sam let out a slightly exasperated sigh but Dean simply shrugged
"Alright then kid," Dean nodded, "If you really want to then we'll teach you some stuff about hunting, but lets not jump the gun to you becoming a hunter just yet alright?" He sent her a slight smile and she returned it.
'That's good enough for now' she thought
Sam remained silent, but Sierra tried not to pay much attention to his concerned look. Instead she lay her head back onto her pillow, letting her eyes close.
The boys started talking again and she just let herself tune out to their conversation. All wanted to do was sleep. So she did.
