"Don't worry, the dog dosn't bite." Jade bent down as Buzz, thier 47 kilo german sheperd jumped on her knees.
"Awwww, he's cute!" James laughed as Buzz licked his face. They moved on, with James stumbling over his own two feet. Jade and Amy, having been around the property about a billion times, knew were all the pot-holes were, so they laughed at james instead. According to James, it was the grounds fault that he kept face planting.
After an hour pf laughing at James, Kathrine stuck her head ou the window. "Get ya asses on the veranda, dinners ready."
"Last one back's a rotten egg!" James yelled as he raced off in the direction of the veranda.
"Oh your on." Jade muttered, and her and Amy took of after him.
They made it, laughing and panting as they took thier seets.
Dinner was deliciouse, perfectly cooked salmon and cold salad drizzled with french dressing. The adults talked work and political stuff. The kids talked school, local gossip and dickhead teachers. (come on, everyones had one)
After dinner, Amy said her farewells and trotted back down the dusty road back home to her mother, farther and little brother. About half-way down the road, a pair of head lights loomed in the darkness behind her.
they pulled into a drive way and two burly men got out. Amy slipped behind a hedge to watch them in suspiciuos silence.
A rough hand clamped over her mouth. she smelled gun pouder behind her. A metal cilender was shoved into her side.
A gun
Amy's breath got caught in her throght.
"Lesson number one," a gruff voice said "what seems like the main threght, could just be a distraction."and she
couldnt
breathe.
"Come with me," he guided her out of the bushes and into the open, giving a quick thumbs up to the burly men who got out of the car erlier.
Ameilia, if you want to get out of here, calm down! said the tiny part of her brain that was still sane out of all this madness. Questions swam around her head like why me? and what do they want? and why now?
she finally steadied her breathing and her brain set to work, noticing everything around her.
her mother always said she was Sherlock Holms' twin sister.
the man's grip on the gun relaxed. his breathing slowed. this was a fifteen year old girl, what could go wrong?
Amy noticed all of this in a split second, and decided to make a move.
she grabbed the gun, driving her elbow into his gut, pulling the gun out of his grip. She spun around, holding her leg high enough to hit his side. with her free hand, she gave a blow just above his eye. She pushed him over, holding the gun just above his face.
right, she thought. that went well.
her face was flushed and fleelings swirled inside of her. could she really kill this man? no. Of corse not. She's not the same monster he is.
But then what? Take the gun and run? she wouldnt make it anywere before the men who got our of the car came to help their comrade.
Thankfully, she diddn't need to make a desision.
"AMY!!" running down the footpath, was the last person she expected to see.
James.
gun in hand, he sprinted to her. Once he reached her, he held her at arms length and asked quietly "Amy is there anyone eles?" Her breaths quicked, and then the sobs came in ragged bursts. "Amy you have to tell me." he says a little more ergently. Shakily, she raised her hand to accross the road.
His voice gentler now, James told her "Ok, I'm gonna get us out of this ok? But you have to trust me, ok?"
He didn't give her time to reply.
"Right, when I count to three, you cover your eyes and duck, ok?"
Still no time to answer.
"One... two... THREE!"
Amy hit the ground so hard she'll be digging congrete out of her chin for a week. Lucky her.
She heard two gunshots.
James nudged her with his toe. "you can get up now."
"And you," he started adressing the guy Amy recently beat up, "Can get up too." His deadly calm, he lifted him off the ground, and slapped him accross the face to rouse him "I want you to take a message to the Rouge Islanders. Tell them the can kill families, destroy trust, bargain, cheat, but the girl stays with us! understand?"
Amy had no idea what he meant by "the girl" but had a gut feeling it was her.
why me? whats so special about me?
The man didn't move. his eyes settled in a steely glare at James.
"But I message for you. Tell your petty little Animalia that they can't run from this. From that." With that last word he pointed at Amy.
James held the gase. " Go."
the man lifted his collar and walked away.
