I parted away from him, the rain slowly drenching the both of us.
"What?" Rei's forehead raised in confusion.
"I... I'm sorry" shocked, I started to walk away.
"Y/N, talk to me, please" he shouted
"That was a mistake, Rei" my arms were crossed with each other as I went further away from him.
I felt his hand touch my shoulder making me face him once more, "Stop it!" I couldn't help but break down. "Tell me, were you really a friend to him?" I looked at him in the eyes, he was silent.
I shake my head in distress, turned around, and walked away.
As I reached back to my house, concerned faces from both of my parents are what greeted me. I walked past them as I made my way to my room. I fell on the floor, with my arms hugging my legs to my chest.
I watched the water trickle down my window as it rained for most of the day. I was already half-dried at this point, my body felt numb from being on the floor for hours and beyond.
But with all my might, I stood up, legs shaking as I made my way to the dresser to change from damp clothes to a fresh robe.
It was almost the end of the day. I plopped onto the bed and laid almost lifeless with the usual silence shrieking at me. My phone constantly lit up on the nightstand just beside me, none of which were from someone I wanted to hear from.
I'm sorry
I should've insisted on taking you home.
Y/n, talk to me. Don't lead me on like this.
I close my eyes, and before I knew it, the clock struck its hand to midnight, I hear my phone ring. Finally.
"Hey there," he greeted. From there, I could feel the guilt cripple me-- it slid within my body, like a knife dragging slowly across my spine. "What's the matter?" he asked, worried.
"I miss you" I cried out, "I'm in such a messy place right now."
Joji sighed from the other line, "remember our promise?"
I nod with tears continuously rushing down from the corner of my eyes, "I do."
"I want you to hold onto that, please?"
"what if you don't?"
"you don't even have to worry, you know I always keep my promises"
My whimpers filled the quietness of the conversation, "and what if I don't?"
"then," he breathed in "If you slip away, I'll be on the other end to catch you" I could hear he was just as emotional as I was, "I will always try again...
if not then, then maybe in another life."
The melancholic night eventually turned serene. As I closed my eyes and floated towards my nightly dream, I hear him say, "I love you"
