I face-palmed myself. "Are you kidding me?" I growled.
Kellar sighed. "I better call my mom."
We turned around and walked back towards the water fountain. I sat down and angrily licked my ice cream to stop it from melting down my hand. Kellar sat next to me when he finished talking to his mom. "Is she mad?" I asked.
Kellar pursed his lips and nodded. "Yeah." He took off his glasses and untangled a piece of his black hair from them.
I laid my head on his shoulder. "So, do we just go back home or what?"
"I'm not sure."
"I'm trying not to be really mad, Kellar." I looked up at him. "It's so hard. I was looking forward to this so much, and I know you weren't, so I'm sorry." I was trying not to cry. I flipped my sunglasses down over my eyes.
Kellar held my hand. "I know. It's okay... But I'll make it up to you, I promise. This will be the best week of your life." He took my sunglasses. "Okay?"
"Okay."
Kellar grinned. "Let's start with a food fight," he whispered as he shoved his ice cream into my face.
I gasped. "You did not just- " I scowled at him as he looked at me smugly and I smeared my cone across his face. "There."
Kellar shrugged and pushed me into the water fountain.
"Kellar!" I screamed at him, trying not to laugh. I grabbed his arm and pulled him in.

"So, one week. Where do you want to start, Olivia?" Kellar asked as we waited in the street for a taxi. The sun dried our skin and clothes, and I didn't even care that we were soaking wet.
"I have no idea. What do you usually do when you're not with me?" I laughed and wrung my hair out.
"Nothing really. Study. Spend the day at the library... But hey...I've got a great idea!" Kellar grinned and pushed up his water splashed glasses. "My cousin invited me to their family cook out they have every summer. I told him I couldn't go, but now that our schedule is free we totally should!"
"Uh, are you sure, Kellar? I know you don't like big groups. I don't want you to do this for me." I squeezed his arm. "You don't need to worry about making anything up to me."
"Are you kidding? My family is totally different. You'll get to see a side of me you haven't seen yet, appealing, huh? Yeah, I know it is. Anyway, my mom's probably told them about you and they're pretty cool!" Kellar squeezed my arm back. He looked so happy.
"Okay, I'd love to go."
The taxi arrived and we decided to pack another bag and stay with Kellar's family for a few days.
As Kellar pulled my big green van into the driveway I didn't find myself so nervous. I knew this was going to be a great week.
"Ready?" Kellar asked as we got out of the van. He grabbed my hand and knocked on the door.
I smiled at him as a boy opened the door. He was small but his smiled made up for that. "Kellar!" He screeched. "What are you doing here!? Mom told me you were going on vacation."
"Well," Kellar chuckled, "We missed our ride." He winked at me.
The boy made a strange noise. "Oooh, Kellar is this your girlfriend, Olivia?"
Kellar smiled, "Yes, this is my girlfriend, Olivia."
The boy stuck his hand out, "I'm Jesse, I'm 12."
I shook his hand. "Nice to meet you, Jesse."
Jesse led us in to the kitchen to meet his mom.
She hugged Kellar and me like she knew me. "Welcome to the family, Olivia. I'm Samantha."
I smiled. I wanted to say that I wasn't part of their family... but I already felt like i was.
