Just one chance...
Zavian
Full Gospel Tabernacle was packed full for the service in honor of Zavian Alston. There wasn't an open seat in the enormous church. They even had to turn some people away as if it was a concert instead of a church service. Everyone came out to see the war hero on all of the newspapers and to hear Reverend Nathaniel Goodman preach. Large crowds weren't new for the church. Every Sunday, the church was filled with people of all different shades and sizes. The lively atmosphere is what kept everyone coming back. There was a certain unique presence in the air once anyone stepped inside the sanctuary. The presence made you want to clap your hands, smile, dance and made you feel loved.
All of these emotions mixed in with nervous jitters, was what Zavian was feeling as he sat in the front pew, watching as Reverend Goodman preached about the journey of Moses. Zavian believed in God but he wasn't the type of person that went to church. Being in church was something totally new for him. He wasn't sure if it was something he wanted to do every week but he enjoyed it. For the first time in years, he felt loved. Everyone in the church was staring at him, flashing bright smiles his way and the ushers would check on him often, asking if he needed something. People clapped and cheered whenever the Pastor mentioned his name in his marvelous sermon. Everyone was showing him so much love, he couldn't hide the wide smile on his rosy face.
After Reverend Goodman wrapped up his sermon, he sat back down on his throne-like chair behind the altar and his wife stepped up to it as people stood and clapped for the man of God that just preached one of the best sermons of his life. "Let's continue to give a round of applause for God speaking through his vessel tonight!" Faith said into the mic and everyone clapped and cheered harder for him. There was a few minutes of this before the crowd calmed down and sat back down in their seats. "Amen" Faith took a moment to look back at her husband with a smile on her face then she turned her head around to face the congregation. "To end the service, I'm going to ask for my youngest daughter......Y'all know I love to hear her sing" She shot them a knowing look and laughed lightly as they clapped loudly. "I'm going to ask my baby to come up here and end this service with a beautiful song. Give a big round of applause to our daughter, Sister Melody Goodman!"
Zavian rose to his feet and clapped in unison with the flock of people. Melody came out from a door in the back behind the choir. She had changed her clothes from earlier. She was now wearing an all black Peplum pantsuit that hugged her thick frame just right and on her feet were some black Christian Louboutin stilettos. Her hair was pulled up in a large bun on top of her head and her make up was light but the red lip, set the whole look off. Her jewelry was simple. Simple diamond studs, a charm bracelet and a diamond cross. Still, she looked absolutely radiant as she made her way down the steps to her mother. She took a moment to hug her mother before Faith went to sit down next to her husband and Melody turned to look at the crowd with a cute, shy smile as her cheeks blushed from all of the applause. "Thank you" She chuckled softly into the mic and everyone got more riled up.
