Luke walked around the boardwalk for a while, not impressed with what he saw. He walked for a bit, deciding to just go home, until he saw a tiny shop that was labeled "Sir's Paranormal". Luke furrowed his eyebrows. He's never seen this shop before, and he's walked the boardwalk enough to know every name of every shop. No one was even glancing at the mysterious store. Weird.
He shrugged his shoulders, deciding he would just look. He opened the shop door, cold air making goosebumps rise on his skin. "Who's there? Get out! Out!" Luke hears an old lady scream, running to the main part of the store. "Get out of here stupid bo-" She stops mid sentence staring at Luke in awe. "I-It's you? It's really you!" The lady squeals squishing Luke's face in her hands. "What?" Luke manages to say through her hands. "You know! Merman!" The lady takes her hands off, admiring Luke. "You look much bigger. More grown." She sighs happily.
"Who are you?" Luke steps back, terrified by what she knew. "Luke? Do you not remember? I am Sirena, your grandmother." Sirena laughs dryly. "Come. We must talk." She beckons him to a room in the back.
..
"And so, the pod is coming back, for you, Luke." Sirena told him everything. His parents death, their pod kicking them out, everything. "What do you mean coming back for me?" Luke stutters. "They seek your power, Lucas. You mustn't give it to them. Bad things will happen." She takes another sip of her tea, her unnaturally long aqua colored nails scratching the porcelain cup. Luke studied her features. Her grey hair looked like it hadn't been brushed in weeks, seashell everything, and a makeup less face. She was a natural beauty.Luke processed the information. How the fuck did he get stuck in this mess? He didn't choose to be this way."You have to get away Luke. While you still can before the last full moon of the year." She put her dainty hand over his clenched one. It was only June, he had enough time to spend here. Luke didn't say anything. He was too shocked to speak. "Come, your legs must be aching." Sirena said, opening a door in the back of the shop. The door opening revealed a cave, filled with ocean water. "This is where I choose to swim. I haven't been to the open ocean in months." She sighed "You can come here whenever you want." Luke nodded, Sirena closing the door so he could be alone. Without a second to spare, he jumped into the cave. His tail came back in a few seconds, making the surrounding water pale pink. He dove. If he swam deep enough, he could take a short cut to open water.
Luckily, the cave stopped, and there was only open ocean. He sighed happily and swam until he was exhausted. He knew he was too close to shore, but he didn't care. There was a fish nibbling on the tips of his blue fingers. When Luke transformed, he wasn't like other mermaids and mermen, his face would become dusted with blue, his stomach would turn a light blue, and fingers a deep navy. He hated it. He ignored the blue, letting the small fish nibble on his fingers still. He cooed "Hi." The fish blew bubbles in return. He noticed it was a minnow. He couldn't process it at the time, but wherever there were minnows he was too close to shore.
Unfortunately, It was too late. A fishing hook was caught on his caudal fin. The line was tugging harshly, bringing tears to Luke's eyes. This hook was definitely a bigger hook than the others he saw on land. He clawed at the sand, struggling to get away. The line kept pulling and Luke began to cry, but kept his cool. It hurt so fucking much. He eventually tugged hard enough to get away, causing his left caudal fin to be ripped halfway off. He cringed at the pain. He swam as best as he could to his passage way. The pain circulated through his whole body.
He pulled himself up, checking the damage. The pink fin was torn. The part where it cut off was ragged and when Luke touched it, it stung terribly. He sat for a minute and his tail dried. The effect on his legs was worse. His left leg had one cut, six inches long. Since he doesn't have a tail when he's dry, the injuries are always worse. There was blood running down his leg. He looked around, hoping no one was watching and whispered "Heal." While pressing his hand to his leg, the cut disappearing. He thanked the gods, standing up and brushing his legs off. If he healed his legs, that also means he healed his tail.
"Ashton! This is bullshit!" Luke hears a familiar voice from a few yards away. "Calum, you found a fin, it's not a big deal." Ashton sighed. "This asshole made another fish not having the ability to swim. How would you feel if you had one of your legs ripped off!" Luke thanked Poseidon he had the ability to have super sonic hearing. He looked over the rocks. Calum was holding a pink fin in his hand. Oh shit. Luke had to make a plan.
"H-Hey Calum!" He stuttered, limping to him. "Luke! Are you okay?" Calum asked worriedly. "Yeah. 'M fine." Luke hisses at the burning heat on his shoulders. Another reason why he hated land. "Whats that you got there." Luke asked, pointing at his fin that divorced his tail ten minutes prior. "This asshole pulled it out from the water after almost pulling a huge fucking fish." Calum ran his finger over the large fin. "But what fish could have this big of a fin?" Calum furrowed his eyebrows and examined the fin. "Calum! A mermaid!" Ashton joked while Luke took in a sharp breath. Calum raised one eyebrow at him, glancing at Luke's webbed fingers and limp.
"M-Maybe." Luke stuttered completely nervous. Calum stared at him for a moment. Luke cursed. He knew Calum caught up.
