Chris' POV:

I backed away from Mathew and Peej, my heels bumping against loose stones and stray clumps of grass with each step. If I could just do this quietly, then I could go find some brunch, look around a bit and then be back here before they even noticed that I was gone. Simple.

PJ took a picture of the lake in front of us, with the ducks swimming over its surface. He lowered the camera and showed the picture to Mathew, who bent his head so that they were both looking at the camera screen and talking about the way the light reflected off the water or something ridiculous like that.

Yes, there were ducks about. Yes, I was with my two best friends, but this had gotten boring pretty much immediately. They're ducks. You get ducks everywhere, so what made these ducks so different that Peej felt the need to take pictures of them?

Mathew had told us that we were meeting his best mate and another friend at the park, before we could go and get some food together. But this friend of his was running late. Personally, I was sort of doubting that the friend we were waiting for actually existed.

Mathew had said that the friend was funny, but that they were quite shy, tongue tied and embarrassed when you first meet. That Mathew had been friends with them for three years and that the friend made YouTube videos, played video games and adored Doctor Who which was why Mathew wanted me to meet them. The friend was called 'RandomQuartz', or something, on which ever site they uploaded their videos to, which was a weird name if you ask me. Huh, this is me talking about having weird channel name. I called myself 'crabstickz' for fuck's sake!

I had to say, I was curious to meet this friend. I mean, Mathew's never been one to mix with new people. I'm not saying that he can't make friends, it's just he doesn't make them easily. We've been close friends ever since we were, what, fifteen? We'd been paired up in drama and I found out that this shy guy who had to have his lunch order set out a certain way and to have his uniform dressed to military perfection, was actually a lot of fun once he warmed up to you and relaxed a little.

My heel hit the side of a grass bank. This was my chance to run for it, to run quietly with the help of the grass under my feet.

I scrambled away over the bank, jogging over the damp grass in any direction possible. Mathew and Peej could look after themselves, but I didn't fancy spending another hour with a hungry stomach watching ducks swim around pond weed and eating mouldy bread. The ducks were eating mouldy bread, not me, but the very thought that the ducks were eating and I wasn't became enough to make my stomach relentlessly beg me for food.

I slowed down to a walk and hopped back onto the path, zipping my hoodie up and then forcing my hands into the pockets. I must look like some sort of chav right now. The temptation to put my hood up and start walking with almost a limp in my step became almost irresistible. I only stopped myself from doing it because a mother with two children, one holding each hand, walked past me in the other direction. I nodded my head at her in a greeting, to which she frowned at me and hurried her kids along. Well excuse me for having manners!

I rolled my eyes and sunk further into my hoodie. Sometimes I really don't understand people...

"So, I'm at the park now, where Mathew said we'd meet, and guess what? He's not here!" a voice called out. A female voice. I continued walking but also looked towards the sound of the voice, to see a girl sitting on the swings with her back to me. Did she say Mathew? I thought for a moment. Had Mathew mentioned if this friend of his was a girl or a guy? I don't think he did. Not that it matters.

The girl continued to talk, but no one responded to her. "I'm gonna wait a bit, but this might become a wasted vlog which I won't even upload. I suppose this is a little more interesting that you guys watching me night blog on Tumblr, or something, though," she continued jokingly.
