Dan's POV:

Mia and I had finished making her video explaining us to the internet now. The footage had been edited, the sound checked and the end screen sequence muted a little to fit with the sombre tones of the video. The only thing left to do now was wait for the video to upload.

As we all waited for the video to load, Mia remained seated before her laptop at the sofa, her hands shielding her face as she watched the screen, letting the minutes tick by and exposing herself to the torture of time. I wanted to calm her, to reassure her somehow that the fans would accept the news, but that wasn’t something I could truthfully swear to her. I don’t think anyone could accurately predict how they’d react as a whole, not even Phil and I. After all, the Phandom are quite protective over Phil and I, as Mia knew all too well. It worried me too.

Phil and I didn’t leave her, instead entertaining ourselves with our own laptops as we sat beside Mia on our sofa. We tried to distract her with small talk a few times, but Mia only hummed in response mostly. I thought I saw her hands shaking, for she knew the Phandom life far better than we did, and that knowledge paired with her naturally worry would surely scare her. Mia’s just so concerned about how others perceive her. I had to wonder how she’d dealt with school and any potential hate messages before.

It was only minutes after the video went up that comments started to appear, multiplying in number before we could even read one. There were the typical ‘FIRST!!1!!’ comments, and the comments which were only promoting their own channel or some other website, but we found the real comments.

Loads of these opinions that were being expressed were positive ones, being really kind and happy for us, but Mia didn’t notice them. She honed in on the negative comments, reading them over and over again before her eyes were glistening with a layer of tears. She’s so unsure of herself, so positive that people will hate her, when in fact we all love her to pieces. I love her to pieces.

She’s funny, sweet, amazing and beautiful. From the way she squirms and wrings her hands when she’d nervous, to the way she treats the people around her. It’s almost like she’s constantly trying to win them over, but what she doesn’t know is that she’s already won them over as soon as she’s said ‘hello’ in that way of hers; with the shy hand wave and that blush. That blush which appears on her cheeks whenever anyone shows any flicker of gratitude or a compliment to her. Trying to describe Mia and why I love her is like trying to describe the taste of water; never-ending and tongue-twisting to convert into words which carry enough meaning to what I feel.

I had no idea what she sees in me. I was surprised at how she’d given me another chance.

“Mia, stop reading them,” Phil pleaded with her, resting a hand on her arm and trying to divert her attention away from the screen. Mia’s lip quivered as she parted her lips to speak. Seeing her like this made me want to build an impenetrable barrier around her which would shield her from any negative emotions. I hated seeing her like this.

Her phone beeped out the introductory notes to a song I couldn’t name, which called Mia to check her pockets for the new message. She shuffled around next to me and went onto her new messages. Even the announcement of this new message didn’t seem to distract her, for her shoulders simply rose to her ears as she tensed up over the screen.

I watched as she sat back again, chewing her rounded lips as she explained that it was Charlie who’d texted her, more specifically, he’d asked her to come and help with filming for his current film tomorrow.

My heart sank a little. I’d wanted to spend the day with Mia tomorrow, trying to prove myself to her. I didn’t want to let her doubt me in that time, but I supposed I’d have to wait, to plan more thoroughly. This sounded like a great opportunity for her, and I didn’t want to deny her of that.
