Ed's eyes snap open. He feels around, looking for his phone, which has been ringing for the past however long.
Loudly.
His left hand searches until he feels something squishy.
He feels a body underneath him.
Oh.
Oh.
He's laying on Roy Mustang.
After a few seconds,he realizes the worst part.
His phone is underneath Roy Mustang.
Edward groans in exasperation. He smacks Roy on the face to wake him up.
"Bastard! Get off of my phone!"
Roy just digs his hand under his back and pulls out his phone. It wasn't ringing anymore, but it was eerily silent. Shivers ran across Ed's spine.
He takes the phone Roy was still holding and presses the activation button.
Edward stares in horror at the screen.
4:00 p.m.
Alu:
26 missed calls
"SHIT!"
Roy yelps as Ed pushed his right hand into his stomach to get up from the couch.
He runs to his room and speed-dials Al as he's rummaging through his clothes as fast as he can. He puts it on speaker.
"Hello." The greeting was stone-cold.
Ed shivered.
"Al, I'm so sorry, I lost track of time then I fell asleep I'm so, so sorry I didn't mean-"
"Ed," Edward stops as he starts to zip up his hoodie,"It's okay. I was just seeing if we were going to still meet up."
Ed finally zips up his favorite hoodie all the way and takes Al off of speaker.
"Well of course we are, Al. I wouldn't pass up an offer to meet up with my baby brother."
He could hear Al smiling from the other side of the conversation.
"That's great brother. See you there."
"See you there."
The phone clicked off, and Ed walked out of his room as he was checking all his social media apps.
"Who was that Shortie?" Roy leans on his elbow and runs a hand through his hair.
Ed glares at Roy.
"That was Alphonse, you dick. I'm meeting up with him at a diner. He has news for me. Hopefully it's good."
"Whatever Pipsqueak. Where are you going?" Roy sits up on the couch. Ed huffs.
"Well if you HAVE to know, I'm going to a diner." Ed looks at Roy in disdain.
Roy smiles. It's the kind of smile where Ed wants to punch out all of Roy's teeth.
"Eh. Can you get me a pastry? Like.. I dunno, a bagel?"
Ed looks at Roy, and chuckles.
"Get your own damn bagel."
Ed closes the door to Roy shouting something about two bagels.

Alphonse wheels into the diner, an hour early. He knows his brother wasn't there yet, for Ed was very, very rarely on time for anything.
Al starts to ponder, what if everything was different? Mom would still be alive, Al wouldn't be in a wheelchair, Ed wouldn't have metal limbs. He then thought, would him and Ed even be where they are right now?
"ALPHOOONNNSSEEEE!!!!!!!!"
Al looks over to the producer of the scream and yelps, as he is being unceremoniously tackled. His wheelchair skirted a few inches because of the velocity of Ed's hug.
Had he really been thinking, staring off into space for an hour? Huh. Okay.
"H-Hey Niisan. How has your day been?" Ed's seems out of breath.
Ed wrinkles his face in disgust, so bad that he makes the expression of people meeting Excalibur. (AN: I freakin hope you understand said reference.)
"Well....Roy and I got...t-together..." Ed was blushing, and he blushed even harder as Al's face expression went from sympathy to amazement.
"Roy......did he confront you?" Al asks.
"Yeah..? Anyway then I fell asleep on the couch, and when I woke, I had twenty six missed calls from you." Ed says sheepishly.
Al laughs. He looks at the time, and is astounded. Ed is here ten minutes beforehand.
"How about you take a seat, dear Brother? I know you ran here, since you are ten minutes early."
Al laughs, causing Ed to laugh wholeheartedly. It was always nice to see Edward's younger brother laugh.
"So. You said you needed to tell me something? It must be pretty important if you didn't tell me over the phone."
The happy tone vanished from the space.
Al's hands start moving on their own. He had a napkin in hands, and now he's tearing it to pieces. This only happens when he gets extremely stressed, or nervous. Ed notices and puts his hands on Alphonse's.
"Hey, you don't have to tell me if you don't want to. You can tell me when you are ready, Al."
"N-No. I have to tell you. It's vital to talk to you about this." Al looks away, causing Edward's eyes to widen.
"E-Edward. This is hard for me to say."
Alphonse's eyes well up with tears.
Edward squeezes Al's hand, half because he wants to be there for his brother, the other half, because Al used his full name.
Alphonse is almost openly sobbing, his head low and his chin touching his upper body.
"Alphonse?"
Alphonse lifted his head, and speaks quietly.
"Promise you won't yell here. You have to promise." Al looks determined at Ed, who's more confused and scared then nervous.
"I promise. Alphonse, just tell me."
Ed leans over the table in anticipation.
"Well..... I want to the doctor a few weeks ago... Something is horribly wrong, Edward."
Al looks at Ed, who looks at Al, almost in disbelief, but more, in fear.
"The doctor I went to, majorly does blood work. I had a call back from him."
Al squeezes Ed's hand.
"Edward, I have a tumor the size of a football in my right leg. He told me that I have...I have bone cancer."
"WHAT."
Ed covers his mouth, he promised not to yell, and he did.
It's just.... His baby brother, his gentle, fragile Alphonse, has cancer. Ed looks like he's about to burst into tears when he clears his throat.
"H-How.....Is it fatal?"
Al looks away in sorrow.
Ed's response, is to get mad.
"How...how fatal is it Alphonse."
Al flinches at the tone of Ed's voice.
"I...It's so far along, that I have a thirty percent survival rate."
Both Ed and Al have tears running down their face.
Ed looks at Alphonse, gets up in his wobbly legs, and hugs Al.
"Dear lord, if you really are there, have mercy on my baby brother's soul."
