Percy P.O.V

I wrap my arms around Nico's small frame as he sobs into my chest. Blood is streaked across the window of the truck that is blocking the road paramedics crowding around it. I look behind me Jason is stood there his mouth open a hint of what was once a grin still lingering on his face whilst a lone tear ventures down his face. I know Jason is good friends with the Di Angelos so this must be traumatic. Pain seeps through my chest the sound of Nico's screams still ringing in my ears. I pull Nico impossibly closer trying to absorb his pain, trying to make him forget the pain, the sounds of her life slipping away from her. I begin to rock back and forth trying to show him that I'm here for him, I will take care of him.

I lean down and begin to whispering comforting things in his ear whilst rubbing small circles on his back. A paramedic walks over his head slightly bowed a grave look on his face. It's then I notice the crowd of people has calmed down their movements slowed as if they have failed.

No, she will be okay.

"Erm, sir. Do you know the woman who was in the incident." Nico's head is quickly removed from my chest as he speaks.

"Yes," he replies his voice wavers but his face is blank tear tracks the only evidence there was ever emotion there.

"I am sorry, we have tried everything we can but we lost her"

The world seems to slow, everything a little blurry. I feel Nico push himself off from me mumbling something.

I saw somebody die.

I was helpless.

I couldn't do anything.

I was useless.

I am useless.

It seems hours before a teacher comes up to me and tells me I should go home. It seems days before I am able to make my feet move. It seems forever before I realise ... I will make sure Nico is happy. I may not have been able to save his sister but I can save him.

I'll hold you whilst you heal Nico.
