Prologue

It was Monday. The new list has to be up. People fearing for their status stood in a crowd. I did too, but I waited in the back, waiting for the crowd to die down.

This List changed peoples’ view of others. At least of the twenty that were shown. So far this year, my ass has been saved. I have gotten warnings and stuff, but never actually ‘Post-Ited’. It is amazing how one piece of paper can have such an effect.

The ‘Epic’ people were popular. At least the top five were.

The ‘Fail’ people were those who were emo/goth and tried to stay out of the light.. Not anymore.

The ‘MLIA’ people were class clowns. Always making days and laughs.

Finally, the ‘FML’ people who had bad lives and complained. A lot.

I kind of stood in the average section. Not popular, not nerdy. If you look into my history, all throughout middle school, I was the hottie, as girls said. Everyone knew me. Although I hung with nerds and weirdos, everyone loved me. Like a puppy. Ever since the List came out in the second week of school, I kinda died into the crowd.

My friend Thomas tugged my shoulder, eager to read it, “C’mon, David!! I wanna see it!” his over-excitedness was abnormal. And obnoxious. His eyes were cloaked by his thick glasses, nerdy and standout-ish. One thing that got Thomas on the list in its premiring week was probably his hair. Thomas has the white afro thing going for him. That’s why I think my drowning popularity is keeping me safe.

The first bell rang, and the crowd of relieved and frightened students died. I stepped up, adjusting my brown hair that hung in my green eyes. What I saw next could….

It did nothing for me, my name wasn’t mentioned. (haha, fooled you!) I searched the list, reading the different sections. The ‘Fail’ section was last. My eyes skimmed it, expecting to see Thomas’ name. But I didn’t see it. I saw my girlfriend, Aacie (Ay aus e). I frowned in disgust and tore down the list. Tearing it up in anger, I let it out of my hand, falling to the floor. Aacie had no reason to be on the list, let alone the fail section. She was head cheerleader and has the most beautiful body. That’s not why I love her though. She is the only person who knows me. Aacie will be destroyed by this. And I couldn’t do anything.

That’s the worst part, having something to fight for, and knowing there is nothing you can do about it.
