Zayn Malik’s big brown eyes were looking up at the colours of the spring leaves once again, as they started their transition from the light green and yellow colours into the deep green of summer. His brown orbs were staring through his glasses and up into the trees, looking at how the leaf veins would light up through the thin layer of leaf, due to the sun’s rays spreading it’s light across them. Zayn’s eyes took in every detail as he watched the leaves shake about, hitting each other and causing a gentle shuffling noise as a summer breeze ran through them, as if knowing it was pleasurable to the boy’s ears.
His ears started to pick up a second sound, the sound of gravel being scuffled and pushed about, before he felt a weight on his foot. The boy stopped walking and looked down at the tiny body that was now sat on his foot, looking up at him with a gapped smile. Zayn clutched his sketchbooks a little tighter as he looked down at the curious little boy that was now hugging his leg tightly. His tiny hands were clutched to the material of Zayn’s school trousers, while two big brown eyes looked up at him through long black eyelashes. Zayn’s head tilted to the side a little as he looked over the little boy’s wide, but dribbled, smile with only two front teeth. The hair on his head was a dark black colour, it was fair and fine, with odd raven coloured curls springing from every direction. Zayn couldn’t help but smile as he pictured Harry in his mind.
“Alfie!” a soft call came, and Zayn looked up and smiled widely. The kind girl from next door was walking quickly over to him, and had even set off into a small jog to greet him. The small baby looked up at her excitedly, and finally his small hands deserted their clutch on Zayn’s trousers so that he could put his arms up to Hayley. She smiled and picked him up, bringing the small boy onto her hip before looking up at Zayn with a wide smile.
“Sorry, I told him to say hello to you, I didn’t think he’d sit on your foot, Zayn.” She giggled, before looking back at the small baby boy who was now nuzzled into her, even though his brown eyes were still looking at Zayn with a sparkling curiosity. Zayn held his books a little closer and let out a giggle.
He looked over his neighbour with a small smile. Her hair was up in a messy brown bun, with odd curls sticking out, which seemed to match the small baby boy’s in her arms. Her face was free of make up, and her golden eyes seemed to look down in adoration at the small baby boy in her arms as she held him close. She looked back up at him and Zayn quickly looked over the two small grey patches underneath each of her eyes and couldn’t help but recognise that he’d seen the same ones on his Father’s eyes sometimes. He shivered a little, not liking how he could link such a nice person to someone so scary.
“He was excited to see you, the minute I put him down he was off like a shot.” She giggled, before placing a kiss onto the small boy’s cheek, which made a laugh of delight fall from the small boy’s lips, which made Zayn smile widely at. He’d never really met a toddler before, and he was now beginning to see why people loved them so much.
Hayley looked back at Zayn with a wide smile, her golden eyes looking over him a little bit before she looked sideward and frowned a little. Zayn followed her gaze and looked over to where a loud shuffling noise was coming from, followed by hissed whispers as two teenagers shot out the other side and ran off. Zayn watched them go, recognising the school uniforms to match his own but he had no idea about who they were, the boy simply looked back around to Hayley and baby Alfie.
“Some teenagers are so weird.” She laughed a little, before her two eyes met Zayn’s once again, a contagious smile on her face.
“Anyway, I saw you from across the park and figured I’d say hello! I haven’t seen you around in a while, I wanted to see how you were?” She asked him and Zayn smiled and nodded, before giggling once again at the tiny boy in her hands, who was blowing spit bubbles from his mouth. Hayley smiled and looked down at the small boy and laughed a little.
