Chapter TwoAccustomed to a life of luxury, the students of Rolestone Academy were given nothing but the best. The building itself was a sprawling mansion, more like a castle, set amongst rolling fields and dense forest, with huge buildings surrounding it.
The first day of school was always a procession - limo after half million dollar cars after helicopters made their grand entrances, students stepping out like they were in some kind of slow motion video.
Gabrielle and Imogen were staying in the dorms at the Far East of the the campus, nestled between the river and the winter gardens, in a little alcove of forest. They parted ways at the foyer of their building, Imogen finding her room on the first floor and Gabrielle taking the elevator to the third floor.
Swiping the access card she had picked up from the admin building, Gabrielle dragged her bags into her room, nodding in contentment. Her room was large, spacious and luxurious. A whole wall was glass, looking out across the forest and making the room full of natural light. A huge bed, freshly made sat in the middle of the room, and a large mahogany desk sat against the far wall. There was a little alcove with cooking facilities, and two doors - one leading to a huge wardrobe and the other to a private bathroom.
Checking her watch, she realised it was already 5.50, and she knew from experience that dinner was strictly at 6 on the first night back. The Academy had no uniform, but there was a high level of dress code expected. The closet had already been stocked with the clothes Gabrielle's mother had sent before her arrival, so she sifted through, choosing a tight grey dress that came below her knee and the pair of heels. She checked her reflection in the mirror, sighing at the bags under her eyes.
'Not good enough...' She muttered to herself, opening her bag and pulling out her makeup. She touched up her face, pulled her hair into a smooth ponytail and smiled at her appearance in the mirror.
It was no secret that Gabrielle was beautiful. She knew it, her friends knew it, everyone knew it. It was a natural beauty, a mix between her sculpted features and the cool air of disinterest she carried with her. She had been trained with manners and etiquette, of course, but there was something about her that intimidated most people, something in the way her eyes always seemed so piercing yet empty.
As she walked down to the dining hall, heads swiveled and eyes followed her. She stood in the entrance, appraising the scene coolly, before carrying herself confidently to a table near the middle. Some students, the ones she had had classes with in previous years, smiled at her or even nervously said hello. She simply smiled tightly at them all, unaffected and uninterested by the attention.
She sat down and the noise in the hall rose back to normal, the students returning to their conversations.
"I swear they gave me the worst room as punishment for last year," Imogen threw herself into the seat opposite Gabrielle, not bothering with a greeting.
"I wouldn't be surprised, you did punch two holes in the wall." Gabrielle gave her friend a genuine smile, pleased to see her.
Imogen frowned, pushing a strand of blonde hair off her face. "Not on purpose. I was practicing karate."
Gabrielle rolled her eyes. "Have you seen James?"
"Oh yes, I saw him go into Yasmin Harvey's room," Imogen smirked.
Gabrielle groaned. "I love him but seriously?! He can do so much better than her."
"A boy's gotta do what a boy's gotta do!"
"Stop defending him."
"I can't help it, he's so cute," Imogen shrugged innocently. She was very open about most things, and frequently mentioned that she would 'most definitely have done James by now if he wasn't your brother' to Gabrielle many times.
