I was never the type of person to make mistakes, or even admit that I did make them. Everyone knows this. And I'm not exaggerating, everyone knows. My family, my extended family, the school, the town. I'm surprised the whole world doesn't know by now.So when I told my best friend that I made a mistake, she was shocked. No, shocked is an understatement, she literally froze. Right there in public, in the middle of the hallway.
"What? Say again? Did I hear wrong?"
"I said," I let out a heavy sigh. "I made a mistake." Camila's eyes were wide, and her mouth parted a bit. "Mila!"
"You just - I - you - what?" Camila stammered, her eyebrows now furrowed. "What happened? What made you admit that you made a mistake?"
I ran a hand through my hair, my eyes darting to locker, to people, to the floor, and finally to Camila. How do I put this? Okay, take a deep breath and then just say it.
"I - well," I cleared my throat, shifting on my feet. "I, shit. This is hard."
"Just spit it out!" Camila exclaimed.
"I slept with someone." I quietly admitted.
"What!? With who!?" Camila shouted, causing people to look our way. I huffed, grabbing her elbow and pulling her out of the school.
It was a nice, sunny day out. White clouds were out instead of the grey ones. It wasn't too chilly of hot outside, it was just perfect weather.
Some other students were outside, but not much. They were all heading inside to get their stuff and then leave. It was the last day of school, and summer vacation was beginning.
"How did this happen? And who was it with? Give me all the details, now!" Camila demanded, yanking her arm out of my grip and folding her arms. I was taller then Camila, so I slightly smiled at her being mad. "Y/N! Tell me, now!"
"With uh -" I paused. "Lauren Jauregui." Camila froze, then bursted out laughing. She clutched her stomach, doubling over in laughter and gripping my arm for support. "It's not funny, Camila!"
"You - ha - you slept with the principal's daughter -- and the sheriff's daughter! Oh my god!" Camila continued to laugh.
"Camila!" I slapped her on the arm. "I'm in big trouble!"
Camila inhaled and then exhaled, catching her breath. She let go of my arm, standing up straight. She wiped an invisible tear from her face, grinning.
"How are you in big trouble?" Camila asked after calming down.
I glanced down at my shoes, my cheeks flushed with embarrassment, "Her father found out."
"Oh shit."
"And he wants to talk to me this afternoon."
"Double shit."
Lauren
"Dad! I made a mistake - it was no big deal!" I told my father as I set in his office. He was dressed in his uniform, the gun in his holster, along with his walkie talkie and badge.
"No big deal? Jesus, Lauren! That poor excuse of a girl took your virginity away!" He insulted.
I furrowed my eyebrows, "Dad, Y/N isn't a poor excuse! She's a straight A student and she's friendly!"
"Who also has a criminal record for trespassing and vandalism." He stated.
"So what!? Everyone trespasses at least once in their lives!" I defended. He turned away from his computer, raising his eyebrow at me. "Except me, of course." I nervously chuckled.
He just hummed in response. A knock was heard at the door.
"That should be her." Dad quietly said, walking over to it and opening it.
You
The door opened, and Camila and I came face to face with Mike Jauregui, the towns sheriff. He was known for catching criminals and kicking ass. To say I was scared of him was an understatement. I'm terrified.
"I'm just gonna wait here - uhm - yeah, good luck." Camila whispered to me, awkwardly smiling at Mr. Jauregui and then walking away.
"Y/N, come in. Close the door behind you." I did as he said, him sitting down.
"Hi Lauren." I whispered to her as I set next to her.
"Hey Y/N." she smiled at me. Mr. Jauregui glared at me, his face hard and stern.
"So Y/N," he started. "Can I trust you to not finger my daughter under my desk?"
"Dad!" Lauren gasped, her eyes wide, as were mine. He ignored Lauren, his eyes still fixed on me.
"Trespassing, vandalism, taking my daughter's virginity, and underage drinking," Mr. Jauregui said, "What do you have to say for yourself?"
"Uhm.." I trailed off, looking at him, then Lauren, then back at him. "Sorry for taking your daughter's virginity, it won't happen again sir."
He stared blankly at me, blinking. I heard Lauren giggle, and I cringed at what I had just said.
"Okay," he leaned back, pinching the bridge of his nose. "You can go. I've heard enough."
---
"You said what?"
"That taking Lauren's virginity away won't happen again." I mumbled with embarrassment, my cheeks slightly red.
Camila laughed, "Oh my god - that's great. Wow. What a comedian!"
"Shut up," I groaned. "What made it worst was that Lauren laughed. And he brought up me trespassing and shit."
"He has it out for you, huh? Wouldn't be surprised if he set you up for something and arrested you." Camila chuckled.
"He wouldn't do that. Everyone trespasses and vandalizes things," I argued. "Even Lauren has. I saw her - hell, we were with her."
Camila simply shrugged. I opened the door for her, and she smiled up at me as I walked in behind her. We settled down in our usual booth.
"Finally," she grinned. "Summer vacation!"
"What're we gonna do, Camz?" I asked, looking at her. We set across from each other.
"Netflix and bed. That's what I'm doing. What about you?"
I chuckled, my eyes scanning the cafe. I saw people from our school, my eyes landing on a familiar green-eyed girl, who was already staring back at me.
"I don't know," I spoke, my eyes still locked with Lauren's. "But I have a feeling I'm gonna get into a lot of trouble."
Lauren winked at me, looking away and returning to talk with her friends.
"Does that mean I will be getting into trouble to?" Camila asked as I looked back at her.
"Yeah, it does."
