"Josh, are you ok?" Tyler asked me as he handed me a cup of what seemed to be alcohol.

"Yeah, I'm fine." I replied while taking a sip of the mysterious liquid. Yup, definitely beer. He shook his head and snaked his arm around Jenna, his wife. I felt a wave of jealousy wash over me, but decided to ignore it.

Tyler placed a hand on my shoulder,
"Look, Josh. I know you broke up with Debbie, and I know it hurt, but that was two months ago. Let it go." I nodded and shrugged his arm off of me.

"Yeah, I know. Believe me, I'm trying." I said as I took another long drink from the cup I held in my hand. Tyler sighed and ran a hand through his hair.

"If you need us, we'll be outside hanging with Patrick, and Brendon. Ok?" He said while wrapping both his arms around Jenna. Another wave of jealousy overwhelmed me.

"Ok." I said coldly and turned around to order another beer. Tyler rolled his eyes and proceeded towards the exit, his wife by his side. "Asshole." I said below my breath. I don't know why I called him that. Ty is the nicest guy I've ever met, I don't know what I'd do without him. I guess I was just jealous. Jealous of him and his wife and their somewhat perfect relationship. You know, I was actually going to propose to Debbie. But she had to go and sleep with some dick from another band.

I gulped down the rest of my beer and set the cup down on a nearby table. I need more.
I looked around for maybe a keg, or a mini bar. Sure enough, there was one in front of the dance floor that was set up. I pushed my way through the crowd of people that were grinding and rubbing on each other. Ugh.

I don't even know why I decided to go to this party. I guess it was because I didn't have anything to do for New Years, but did we really have to come to a place where people were practically having sex in front of us?

With a few more shoves and groans I had finally made it. Now to drink my problems away. I thought as I tapped my fingers against the counter and waited for the bartender.

"You know, you shouldn't do that." I heard a small voice say next to me.

I turned to see a young girl wearing 60's childlike clothing. Her hair was half pink and half black, and she had a few tattoos here and there on her arms. She had a nose ring and a small painted on tear on her face. Damn, she was cute.

"S-shouldn't do what?" I said trying to find the right words.

"Drink away your problems. It's not good for you." She said simply as she took a small sip from her cup. My eyes widened. Did I say that out loud?

"So, what should I do then? I lost my girlfriend, and now I'm stuck at a shitty New Years party with a ton of people who I don't even know."
I said as I looked down at the counter.

"You lost your girlfriend, huh?"
She said as she scooted close to me. My heart started beating faster. "What happened?" She asked. I was surprised, she seemed genuinely concerned.

I cleared my throat, "Well..."

"So she cheated on you, then told you it was all an accident?" She asked.

"Yeah..." I said as leaned against a nearby tree.

We had gone outside to get away from the music, and the hundreds of people swallowing each other. I had told this girl, who I barely even knew, why I was in such a shitty mood. Who even was she?

"I'm sorry, but what's your name?"

She giggled, I could've sworn my heart skipped a beat, and swung her legs back and forth from the ledge she was sitting on. "Melanie. Melanie Martinez."

I smiled, "Melanie? That's a cute name." Her cheeks flushed as she smiled and looked down at her lap.

"Thanks. So, what's your name?" She asked while covering her face, desperately trying to conceal her now bright red face.

"Josh. Josh Dun." I said as I leaned forward a bit. I pushed myself off the tree and sat beside her on the ledge, my legs barely touching the ground.

"Josh? That's a cute name." She said, mocking me. She had even attempted to make her voice deeper to match mine. Attempted. I laughed and scooted a bit closer to her, getting more comfortable with this person who I had only met an hour ago.

A comfortable silence surrounded us. I don't know what it is, but this girl is so easy to talk to to. Not to mention, she's as cute as a button. After a few hours I got to know more about her. She was a singer, like Ty. I also found out how passionate she is about music. She told me how music had always been there for her, and she wouldn't want to do anything else. I sighed in admiration. God, she was adorable.

I was snapped back to reality by a sudden ring erupting from her phone. "Excuse me." She said as she took the call. Her smile faded and she looked down at the ground. "Yeah. Ok. Bye."

I furrowed my brows,"What's wrong?" I asked, "are you ok?"

"Yeah..." She said quietly, "I have to go."

She hopped off the ledge and waved to me, "it was nice meeting you, Josh."

"Wait!" I yelled as I stood up. Her eyes widened at my sudden movements. I pulled out my phone and held it out to her, "could I uh, have your number?"

She giggled and took the phone out of my hand, our fingers lightly brushing. She quickly tapped away on my phone then gave it back to me, lingering for a moment. She got on her tippy toes and planted a small kiss on my cheek. It took only a moment for my mind to process what had just happened. I smiled and looked into her big brown eyes. God, she was beautiful. At that moment we heard numerous cheers coming from the party.

"Happy New Years, Josh Dun." She said, still looking up at me.

"Happy New Years, Melanie Martinez." I said as I leaned down and lightly kissed her lips. I could feel her smiling.

Happy New Years, Josh Dun
