FIVE MONTHS LATERKim was bordering on a full out panic attack, she was leaving Madison with Adam for the vast majority of the day, she'd agreed to meet up with her sister a few hours away and drive her back to Chicago. She was seriously regretting the decision, but her sister needed her and it was the least she could do. She just wished her sister wasn't terrified of flying, instead she would have to spend five hours in a car.
Originally the plan was to bring Madison, she was talking about it over dinner with Adam just last week when he offered to keep Madison for her. She had gone back and forth about it for days and finally gave in and agreed to it.
Madison absolutely adored Adam, and he was captivated by her, at just under six months old she had Adam in the palm of her hand. He'd give her whatever she wanted, he was amazing with her.
He'd been the perfect gentleman and hadn't pushed her on where their 'relationship' was headed, she knew she loved him but she wasn't quite ready to be any thing more than friends. Even though it took all she had to not give into her desires, and she certainly desired him.
She could hear Madison babbling in the play pen as she packed the rest of the diaper bag, she packed three changes of clothes and grabbed a brand new package of diapers. She knew that was a bit excessive but she once witnessed Adam ruin three diapers before finally getting the diaper on correctly. She grabbed the can of formula and the gallon of water and fit it into a tote bag. Kim had wanted to nurse Madison, but she wasn't producing enough milk and at the suggestion of the pediatrician she switched to formula and instantly Madison started putting on the pounds and started sleeping better and was just a happier baby overall.
Kim glanced around her living room, which had become just an extension of her daughter's bedroom she didn't know who was worse Erin or Adam. Both of them seemed to buy something new everyday, while Erin's purchases were mostly clothes, Adam bought toys, and a shit ton of them.
Satisfied with what she had packed she grabbed Madison from the play pen, "You ready to go play with Adam and Kevin?" She chanted, her voice taking on a sing song quality.
A string of unintelligible sounds came from the baby's mouth, Kim laughed, "I guess that's a yes...right?"
Adam was in the midst of 'child proofing' the apartment he shared with Kevin, he had covered all the electrical outlets and removed anything from the coffee table and shelves within Madison's reach. He had moved their collection of video games from the entertainment center shelving and set it on the kitchen table.
Kevin couldn't help but laugh at his friend's serious over reaction, "Ruzek...Mads can't walk..shit she doesn't even crawl yet..don't you think this" he waved his hands around the uncluttered apartment any item that could be toppled over, or knocked down had been removed, including Kevin's service weapon which was tucked away on a shelf in the kitchen. Adam moved it to the top of the refrigerator and chastised Kevin for not putting it in the safe, "Excessive..maybe just a little?"
"Nope..can't be too careful. You'd be surprised by the amount of babies that end up in the ER with totally preventable injuries. It's not happening on my watch...no way" he placed his hands on his hips, "I think we're good" pleased with his work.
Kevin just shook his head in amazement, it was nice to see Adam happy again. He'd avoided asking him about their relationship knowing when Adam was ready to discuss it he would.
"Hey!" Kevin's voice boomed when he let Kim and Madison in the apartment. "how's the little lady?" He asked quickly kissing them both on the cheek, earning a sloppy kiss in return from Madison.
