Lisa’s POV
The 5 of us sit in the plastic blue chairs in the hospital waiting room. We've been here since the accident, which was 5 days ago. The other girls, besides me and Christina, went home every night, but came back in the morning. Although they begged us to come home, we couldn't take that risk. We couldn't leave Lauren. The guilt was overloading in me and Christina.
I lean forward and run both of my hands through my hair. All of the doctors and nurses refused to let us see Lauren. Christina needed to see Lauren, while me on the other hand, I don’t think I could’ve handled it. The thought of Lauren, lying in a hospital bed. Unmovable, not talking, not looking, not laughing, heck, not even smiling. That would kill me the most. I leaned back into my chair and closed my eyes until I heard footsteps coming down a narrow hallway.
"Excuse me, are you the Cimorelli's?" A perky blonde nurse in pink scrubs comes over to us.
"Yeah. Why?" Christina looks up from her phone.
"I have good news and bad news." She looks at us with a smile. "The bad news, she's a bit shaken up. She dislocated and broke her arm in two places, so she's going to be in a cast for a while. She suffered a serious concussion, resulting memory loss. We had to put 23 stitches on her head and 18 on her face. The good news, your sister," the nurse says as she looks down at her clipboard, "Lauren, just woke up and you can go see her."
We all look at each other grinning then back up at the nurse.
"Follow me." She gives us a warming smile and starts leading us through the hospital hallways. The nurse stops in front of Room 345 and opens the door for us to come in.
"Lauren? You're in the hospital. You were in a car accident." A doctor in blue scrubs tells Lauren.
We look over to see a miserable Lauren. She was pale. Her hair was in a knotted mess. She sits up in her bed and leans back at an angle. We file around the girl's bed and give her a small smile.
"How are you feeling?" Katherine asks her softly as she stands by the doctor.
"Okay." Lauren responds in a weak voice, earning a weak smile from everyone in the room.
“You know who we are, right?” Amy says as she runs her fingers on the bedding, remembering that she had some memory loss.
“Yeah.” Lauren responds with a small smile.
“Okay, good.” Christina bursts out, releasing a sigh of relief.
“You’re my doctors.” Lauren responds softly, running a finger through her hair. We shake our heads with disbelief, our jaws dropped. Is she playing with us?
“What are you talking about?” We all respond simultaneously, practically screaming at her.
Lauren whinces at our screams and stays quiet for a while. “You’re my doctors, right?” I shake my head softly. Lauren has to remember us.
"Are you kidding?" Christina responds harshly to Lauren, reading my mind. Lauren shakes her head and looks at Christina.
"You honestly don't know us?" Amy asks in a weak voice as she points at us.
"No. I don't. I'm sorry." Lauren avoids eye contact. She moves her hands away from Christina's and crosses her arms.
“We’re your sisters.” Dani gives her a smile. Lauren shrugs her shoulders and shakes her head in response. How bad is her memory loss if she can't even remember her sisters?!
"Well, I'm Christina, that's Katherine, Lisa, Amy, and that’s Dani." Christina says as she points at everyone in the room.
"Okay." Lauren says slowly, trying to understand everything. I come around to her right side and sit down.
Lauren looks over at me and hesitates before speaking in a low voice. "Are we all related or something..? Or are they just pulling on my leg?"
"Yeah. We're all sisters. 100% related." I say with a chuckle, not taking my eyes off of hers.
"No we're not. That's not possible. None of us look alike except for us." She whispers to me.
"It's true." I reply. She rolls her eyes playfully and gives me a small smile before facing back forward and closing her eyes.
"When will Lauren be released?" Katherine looks over at the doctor, who was writing on her clipboard.
"Anytime. Just fill out a few forms and she will be released." The doctor holds out a pen and a few forms for Katherine to sign.
Christina leaves the bedside sharply and yanks the forms out of the doctor’s hands and follows him through the door to fill out the paperwork.
"How are you feeling?" Katherine asked Lauren again.
"My head is aching." Lauren says softly with her eyes are closed.
"Don't worry, sweetie," the perky blonde nurse says as she looks at her clipboard, "The symptoms should go away soon." Lauren nodded softly.
I look over at Dani, who was sitting in a plastic chair next to the door. Her face emotionless. It must be hard seeing your best friend, but they only see you as a stranger.
It was a while until Chrsitina opened the door and sat down next to Dani, wrapping her arm around Dani."Ready to go?"
"Yeah." We all nodded and stood up.
"Lauren? Are you ready?" I looked over at her.
Lauren shrugged her shoulders. "I guess."
