Caroline's POV

It was the first real day of summer to me, it was the evening of the beautiful garden party. I had a long and exhausting day, my mother was insisting on me marrying Thomas. Thomas. I couldn't stand Thomas half of the time, why do I have to marry him? I do not love him, nor could I ever love him. We have nothing in common except the fact of our class. He cares nothing of my opinion or ideas, I was scowling at these thoughts as my friend Amelia giggled, "What? Do I smell that horrid?" she teased as she brushed down her dress a bit more, " I hate this thing." Amelia exclaimed and then looked to the working men outside. "Ooh look over there," Amelia whispered and looked towards the dark haired man with broad shoulders who was arranging the first set of beautiful, velvet roses near the east of the garden. Now I am never boy crazy, but he was very attractive, I caught myself playing with a soft blonde curl as I watched him. He looked so handsome, even from this far away.

"You like him?" Amelia teased and my face grew hot, she could tell.

"No" I responded quickly and she grinned

"Yes"

"Whatever you like to believe." I gave into Amelia with a roll of my eyes before they turned back to the worker, he was looking at me now. I gave him a soft smile and hoped I didn't look like a total mess. I am not the prettiest girl, I see myself as rather plain. I did not receive the curves that many of the other girl's my age had. I was plain though there was some beauty in my blue eyes I suppose. I wondered what he thought of me.

Author's Note
