Goodbye.

I open my laptop and read the nine messages from Dylan
5:48 pm
dyl.pickle: Hopefully we'll be able to meet up once you get here.
dyl.pickle: dude you there?
dyl.pickle: Holland?
6:12 pm
dyl.pickle: hey. I just got grounded.
dyl.pickle: I probably won't be able to have my laptop or phone back for a few weeks.
dyl.pickle: so the next time we talk, you'll probably be here in Cali.
dyl.pickle: sorry I won't be able to talk.
dyl.pickle: hopefully we'll be able to meet up once you move.
dyl.pickle: sorry.

Great. I won't even be able to talk to him. I close my laptop and begin to rummage through my belongings once again.

I pick out my most favorite things and set them in a box on my bed. I pick out my favorite outfits and set them on a suitcase, leaving a few to wear over the course of the next two weeks.

Over the next week, my room becomes more empty.

Basic necessities are about the only thing left in my room.

The moving truck is here and we've been slowly packing everything up.

I only have four days left here. In four days, November 18th, I'll be flying across the country.

I spend as much time as possible with my friends. I don't know when I'll be able to see them after I move.

Everyday, I get filled with more sadness and my mind becomes hollow.

•••

Tomorrows the big day. I leave everything behind and finish my junior year with a school full of strangers.

People I've been friends with over the year keep stopping over to say good bye. I haven't talked to some of these people since I was like 12.

Emily, Chrisy, and Lex are coming tomorrow to say bye.

I don't want to leave.

"Rise and shine honey. Today's the day." My dad says with a burst of energy.

"The day that I die." I reply.

"Holland. You're blowing this out of proportions. You're gonna love California."

"Of course I am." I say with as much sarcasm as possible.

"The moving trucks about to leave, so anything else either has to fit in your plane suitcase, or you have to leave it behind."

He closes my door and leaves.

I wake up to an empty room other than a bed. I put on my last outfit I had saved.

I eat a small breakfast and walk outside.

When I walk out, Chrisy, Lex, and Em are standing out there with a store-bought friendship making kit.

"I hate you guys." I say laughing as I walk towards them. I feel a tear stroll down my cheek.

"We want to make sure you'll be able to make the cutest bracelets while you're out West." Lex says laughing.

"I'm gonna miss you guys." I say.

We all gather into a group hug.

"Holl, dad says we have to go now." Brett says.

"I guess this is it guys. I love you."

I hop into the car and close the door. I wave to them through the window as my dad begins to drive away in the car.

They all blow kisses and wave as the car drives farther away.

"Goodbye." I say quietly.
