This isn't how it was supposed to end. This isn't how she ever expected it to end.
But of course, she should have known. She should have noticed the symptoms, the signs. She should have realized that her girlfriend was depressed.
She didn't. Not in time.
"Riley, please. Please...."
Her voice is shaky and hardly a whisper, tears pouring from her blue eyes.
"Come back, please...."
She's crying harder now, hugging her lover's face to her chest. Tugging at her shirt. Wishing that this was all a nightmare.
"Come back, you can't leave me here!"
She screams. It's followed by silence.
"Come back, come back, come back!"
Nothing. Tears flow easier than they ever have before. Her breathing is raspy, her voice almost gone.
"Come back...."
