***10~ Mason

She said yes. I practically exploded. This had to be a dream. I was seriously hoping it wasn't.

I felt my cheeks flush and quickly held out my hand. Her dog glared at me distrustfully until she placed her soft, warm hand in mine and I swear this had to be heaven. I stood there for a second, looking for a good place to sit. I finally saw a shady area, right under the welcoming branches of a (you guessed it) pine tree.

We both sat down and I set the bag in front of me and began pulling things out. When I finished, we both stared at its contents. She started laughing.

I really hadn't paid attention to what I was grabbing.

I groaned and she held her stomach, almost in tears from laughter.

I took stock.

We had canned corn, a loaf of bread, cinnamon, ramen, grapes, bottled water, plastic knives, Superman napkins (presumably from an old birthday party), Nutella, and lemons.

She composed herself, sitting up and sliding closer.

"Wow, Mason, you sure know how to charm a girl," Lilli teased. I gestured at the food.

"Voila!"

She smiled and picked up the Nutella and the bread.

I started peeling a lemon.

"Are you going to eat th-" she began, but I pulled off a piece and shoved it into her mouth. She made the cutest face I had ever seen before smacking me and chewing, scrunching up her face. I started laughing, but then she grabbed it and sprayed me in the mouth (and hair, and face, and neck) and I started laughing and choking and then we were both giggling and hiccuping.

She blushed when we both calmed down, and I could feel my own cheeks heating up. Lilli handed me two pieces of bread and our hands touched, but she didn't move hers.

We held hands as we made our sandwiches, which, by the way, is very difficult to do one-handed. I started laughing at my abomination of a sandwich and she began to giggle at hers. Just as I began to calm, she smeared Nutella across my face. I arched my eyebrows.

"I smell a challenge," I murmured to her.

"What does that smell like?" she asked, and I kissed her.

I didn't even mean to.

It just happened.

She pulled back and stared at me.

"Mason?" A voice said from behind me. It was high-pitched and annoyingly familiar. I turned to see Eliza Taylor staring at me with a pouty expression. I smiled and put my arm around Lilli's shoulders. Lilli visibly relaxed, although I could feel her discomfort.

"Mason, hey! I haven't seen you since-" she began but I cut her off.

"Since I caught you and Randy behind the bleachers," I finished venomously. Eliza had cheated on me with my teammate last year. She teared up and put her hands on her hips.

"I said I was sorry.. who are you?" she said, suddenly, glaring at Lilli. Lilli stiffened and smiled sweetly.

"I'm Lilli. Mason's girlfriend," she said, dragging out the word. I felt my smile brighten considerably.

Girlfriend?

Score.

Eliza crossed her arms and stomped away, leaving us extremely close and giddy.

"So, you're my girlfriend now?" I snickered, brushing the hair out of her eyes. She nodded.

"Yeah. You kind of have absolutely no choice or say in the matter," she said, wrapping her arms around me and kissing me again.
