Nora was absolutely beautiful in that moment, that moment when her hair was stringy and soaked from being dipped in a lake by a Nevermore, and back on that topic she was beautiful when she was hanging from the thing's claws, shouting swear words. Absolutely beautiful.
We split up when the Ursai showed up. Dozens of them, just like in Nora's crazy dreams. Jaune and Pyrrha went to take them on, and Nora and I stuck with the Nevermore.
I nearly had a heart attack when it grabbed her. I was sure she was going to die then. But I should have known better, because Nora is Nora, and Nora is unstoppable. Unkillable. So she stood there, soaking, her hair in her face and a maniacal glint in her eye. She had lost her Magnhild somewhere, and was weaponless. And there I was, both legs broken, useless, on the ground. I knew then that she was going to protect me, and I was internally begging her not to. I thought she would die.
She gave me a grin that said 'I'll be fine.' The Nevermore turned its attention to me, and I knew I couldn't do anything to stop Nora. She was unstoppable. Not just in that moment, but forever. Immortal. I wanted to call out, to beg her to leave or let it kill me. Nora wouldn't abandon me. I couldn't let her face it without her weapon. If I wasn't able to stop her, I could at least help her.
I called to her, I tossed her my remaining gun. I didn't know if Nora even knew how to use it, but she would be able to improvise. I couldn't leave her weaponless.
She was standing in front of me, protecting me like I always promised to do for her, from the time we were toddlers in the orphanage together. The Nevermore was up in the sky, preparing its attack. Nora stood her ground, with my gun in her right hand, pointed at it.
And it attacked.
"Hey, Nora?"
Silence.
"I think I should tell you something important."
More silence. Of course there would be silence.
"I should have been the one protecting you."
"I mean... You shouldn't have had to protect me."
"This is all coming out wrong."
"I'm not very good with words. That's why I don't often use them."
"I... love you."
"Sorry."
"I mean to say, together together love you, to use your words."
There was still more silence. That was never the response I expected to get. It was never silence with Nora. Constant chaos. I was the silence. I balanced her out. I wonder if we belonged together. We could have. I think I took her chaos for granted. I didn't love it for what it was.
"Nora, I really love you."
"So, I'm going to use your words again. Because I think now I have to carry you with me."
"Boop."
