"Don't worry. I can have a function that allows me to turn off my pain simulators. I feel just fine Ruby-friend." Penny said as Ruby frantically tried to re-connect her hand to her wrist. Ruby's eyes are wide as they look into Penny's green ones.
"But Penny, oh. I'm so sorry!" Ruby sobbed, throwing her arms around Penny's neck. Penny tilted her head and looked at Ruby, surprised.
"Why are you apologizing, Ruby? It's not your fault any of this happened." Penny said, placing her still attached hand on Ruby's head and running her fingers through Ruby's hair. Ruby sniffed and nodded, tears still streaming down her cheeks.
"Might wanna save the romance for a little later!" Yang called, sliding across the dirt as an army of Nevermore screech from above. Ruby blushed at Yang's comment, but thought nothing more of it. Blake and Weiss landed down beside Yang and the three ran forwards for another attack. A Nevermore swooped low over the crowd and snatched Blake up in it's talons.
"BLAKE!!" Weiss, Yang, Ruby, and Penny all chorused as Blake was thrown high into the air.
"I'll get her. Weiss, you take the one on the left. Try and create some cover. Ruby, keep an eye on Penny and aim for the right." Yang shouted, her eyes glowing red. And with that she hopped on the nearest Nevermore and shot to the skies. Weiss pulled her sword back and began making an ice barricade of Dust. Ruby stood up and unfolded her scythe.
"LOOK OUT!" Penny shouted, pushing Ruby out of the way. Ruby crashed to the ground and looked up to see Penny get electrocuted by her own circuits as a Nevermore pecked at her metal body with it's beak. Ruby gasped as Penny's leg almost snapped, and her shoulders are beaten.
"Penny!" Penny turned to look at Ruby at the exact moment a Nevermore rammed her back. Penny stumbled forwards, and Ruby rushed to catch her. Except Penny's broken arm is what she catches instead.
"RUBY!" Penny lets out a horrified shriek as her metal arm smashes right through Ruby's chest, wires and metal poking out the other side. Ruby's eyes widen, and she falls to her knees in silence. "No, no no no no NO!!! RUBY!!!" Penny yanks her arm out as fast as she can, but the damage is done. Penny falls down in front of Ruby, her good hand on her face. Ruby reaches forward very slowly, and brings Penny in close to her chest.
"It's okay, Penny. Can you hear that? The beat of my heart?" Ruby whispers, and Penny nods, the sensation of crying filling her eyes. "Penny, I know it was an accident. And I'll keep loving you long after my heart stops beating." Ruby whispers in Penny's ear. Penny swallows hard.
I'll love you long after it stops beating.
By the time Penny opens her eyes, Ruby is dead in her arms. Slowly, she lays her kind friend down onto the ground. And the Penny lays down beside her. She reaches over and takes one of Ruby's cold hands with her good one, and squeezes it.
"Ruby F- Friend." She whispers. "Can you ever forgive me?" Ruby is silent. Penny sighs, glad for once she's not a real girl so she won't have to cry.
"That's what I thought. I wouldn't forgive me either." Penny whispers, and everything goes black.
