The Before

"Wait! Will you listen, WAIT!'' Mike shouted out. He thinks if he'll tell me to wait, I'll wait. I just kept walking, well almost running over the dry leaves, crunching them beneath my feet and loving the sound of it. Stamp, crunch, stamp, crunch...
"Elysia! God damn it!" And then I was yanked back by my shoulders and was forced to look into Mike's eyes. "What?" I snapped back, I don't get people; first they make mistakes and then act as if they have the right to be angry.
"Don't what me, you know what you said was wrong, you shouldn't have done that to Mia." He scolded me. "You shouldn't be like that, she's your childhood best friend.''
"Yeah? Well best friends don't talk behind your back to their boyfriend. She broke the girl code, Mike, girl code #7 to be precise." Rolling his eyes he started chuckling, "As far as I can remember, even Blake is your supposed best friend." He pointed out.
Yah, so what? "But he's not a girl, and you should definitely not talk about your friends behind their back." I started getting angrier then I already was. Folding my arms and tapping my left foot rapidly against the ground, I waited for him to come back with one of his usual smart ass reply.
"But they weren't talking behind your back, Sia, they were talking about you, 'right in front of you'"
"That's one more reason to make me angry" I glared at him.
He started rubbing his forehead to calm down. Yes Mike calm down, I'm getting on your nerves. Pftt.
Knowing he was losing the battle he sighed and started returning on the path we came from, "You know Sia, when someone is planning your birthday party, you shouldn't be angry with them for not keeping unicorns and rainbow as the theme for the party."
"But I love unicorns and rainbow!" I stamped my foot on the ground, and started following him back to the camp site.
"Your turning '18' Sia, 18 year olds don't do that anymore, think of a more mature theme." He gave me a pointed stare, thinking he was winning. In his unicorns and rainbow filled dreams.
We continued walking back towards the lake, him thinking he convinced me and me knowing what I had to do in order to convince them.
Green Lake will always be beautiful, every year at the start of summer, my cousin Mike, my two best friends, Mia and Blake, and I have a trip to the lake which lasts a weekend. The lake is a perfect chill out spot and an amazing campsite. There's greenery all around and cute little tents by the shore. The lake has lots of water sport-activities, with kayaking being my favorite.
Mike and Blake are those inseparable 'bros', who act all mighty and shit, and at Green Lake they act as if they own the place. Although that's not one percent of the truth, still girls love them, and I wonder why.
Usually Mia and I are always together, chilling and giggling and checking out the guy campers, but certain circumstances, meaning Blake has ruined my chance of bird watching. Blake recently proposed to Mia, and of course she was ecstatic, as she has been crushing on him like forever. "Blake is so cute, he's so funny, blah, blah, blah."
On the last day of Junior Year, Blake realized that it's high time that he confesses his feelings for Mia, and in a cliché they acted all cheesy and kissed. That kiss horrified me though; I still get chills remembering it, ew.
I had never missed his glares at the guys who tried to woo Mia, once he even threatened a guy that he'll beat him to a pulp if he came any close to Mia. The guy can't event swat a fly to be honest. But yes, I see the dedication, so he had my untold permission to date my best friend.
But, I still hate Blake. He took my Mickey Mouse away from me.
"I'm so sorry Sia!" I was suddenly squashed by Mia into a suffocating hug. I squeezed her back, happy to realize that she left that idiot and came back to me, haha.
"Yes she's so sorry Lee, for having you in her life." The douche has returned. Blake hugged us both being the irritating prat that he is. I elbowed him in the ribs so that only I could hug Mia.
"Ow, you hit like a girl." And just like that all my anger disappeared. Leaving Mia I turned towards the moron and said, "That's because I am a 'girl', you dum-dum."
Mia and Mike started chuckling as I smacked Blake's head hoping to transfer some of my smartness to the one lacking it.
"Okay, so here's what I have decided, you guys are gonna plan an awesome 18th for me, because I have an awesome theme in mind."
"Finally she talks sense!" exclaimed dum-dum. I shook my head knowing the transferring didn't work.
"Thanks Mike for making her understand." Mia smiled at Mike, and Mike returned it.
Smiling devilishly, I spoke, " So... the theme for my party is... 'RAINBOW AND UNICORNS!'' I heard multiple groans.
And that's how you convince people.
