You lift me up, so I can stand on mountains

All she wants to do is go back to her room. She's spent the morning schmoozing with Australian journalists who haven't the faintest idea who she is or who Girls Aloud are. It reminds her of the beginning, when they were trying so hard to promote Sound of the Underground. They did interview after interview, radio-show after radio-show, question after *Ducking* question. She's not sure she can be bothered going through it all again.

She catches sight of Nadine finishing off a tv-spot, throwing a huge smile at the interviewer who is clearly smitten with her. She walks over to stand behind the camera, folding her arms over her polka-dotted chest and pouting. The interview is winding up.

"Thank you so much for talking to us today Nadine, and before we go just remind us about your single."

"Awww, thank you, it's been great to talk to you, Greg," Nadine gushes, touching him on the arm. Cheryl rolls her eyes. "The single's called 'Biology' and it's out to buy now and we hope you all enjoy it."

"It's a great track and I hope it's the first hit of many for you girls here in Australia!"

"Thanks."

The interviewer, or 'Greg' as Nadine apparently likes to call him, nods to the cameraman and the red-light goes off. He turns back to Nadine.

"That was brilliant, I wish all my interviewees were as lovely as you."

Nadine catches Cheryl's eye over his shoulder and smiles. Greg continues.

"I was wondering...I don't know how much time you've got here, but if you were looking for someone to show you the sights then I could..."

Cheryl's not in the mood to listen to inept flirting and she barges forward.

"You done? I'm headin' back upstairs," she addresses Nadine, ignoring ‘Greg’ completely.

“Yeah, we’re done,” Nadine says, standing up and holding out her hand to Greg, ever the consummate professional. “It was nice to meet you.”

Nadine walks towards Cheryl and takes her hand and Cheryl can’t help but turn and give ‘Greg’ a smug smile over her shoulder.

They head in the direction of the lifts and Cheryl sighs heavily. She stops abruptly and turns to face the ubiquitous camera crew currently filming their every move for some stupid documentary.

“I think that’s enough for now guys, eh? We’ve had cameras shoved in our faces all mornin’, can you give us half an hour, yeah?” Cheryl asks, her voice weary.

Cheryl very rarely asks them to stop filming so the crew respect her wishes without question, grateful for the chance to head to the bar for a light refreshment.

“Well, that was a pointless mornin’ that I could’ve spent gettin’ me pedicure redone,” Cheryl says.

“Why was it pointless? We got some really good coverage,” Nadine says, pressing the button for their floor. She squeezes Cheryl’s fingers lightly. “What’s up?”

“I just don’t even see the point of tryin’ to break Australia. Say we did get really big out here, right? All it’ll mean is more fuckin’ 12 hour plane journeys and more fuckin’ jetlag. I can’t be doin’ with it,” Cheryl rants, surprising herself by expressing opinions she hadn’t fully formulated until they made their way out of her mouth.

“So you’re not happy about gettin’ to travel the world and see all these different places?” Nadine asks, incredulous.

“I dunno. It seems pointless to be tryin’ to get an audience out here when even their own popstars come over to us,” Cheryl grumbles, following Nadine into the lift.
