Halia's POV

"What exactly does it mean?" I asked Kiron when he called into his office. Nikki gave up her seat in the red chair in front of his desk and gave it to me. I kept getting glances from Zach and Tanner, but I couldn't help but look at the centaur next to Kiron's desk.

Kiron looked at me, "it means that eight students are going to have to go up against Death himself and stop him from killing off the demigods. Him killing us off is just making the Gods angry. I'm not sure why he is doing it, but I'm sure you will find out," I gulped. I was fully prepared to take on this task, but it still hit me like a ton of bricks. "I know it's scary, but three of you will be coming back unharmed, Halia you could be one of those three."

"Yeah and so could the seven other kids that are going, Kiron I am one out of eight, those are pretty slim chances of surviving," I put my head in my hands, "I just hadn't thought of it ending this way."

I felt a small hand on my shoulder, I looked up and saw Nikki standing over me. For once I felt ridiculous having a girl three years younger than me give me comfort. But then again, I was pretty sure she would be going to since there were only two Poseidon kids at the Academy; Nikki and her sister Sirena. At least that's what Jace told me.

Zach entered the conversation, "What if we didn't go on the quest and just left Death alone?" What a stupid question.

Kiron shook his head, "Sorry kid, if we did that then there would be an outbreak on our hands. This was meant to happen, it was even written in the books."

Zach ran a hand through his sandy hair and then stood up suddenly, "What if we don't send Halia, but Jace instead?"

Kiron had a half smile on his face, "Hmm...I see what's going on, Zach, Halia has to go. She is the one with the gift. No other Apollo child has had the gift for generations, but once the others arrive we will have two others with a gift also." He looked at me, "of course different than yours Halia."

I nodded, how awkward would it have been to have the same gift as someone? It's like going to prom and realizing that the girl who picks her nose in class has the same dress you do. "Cool," was all I could say. I smiled when Zach shot an icredulous look at me.

"That's all you can say?" he asked.

I nodded, "it's not like we have much choice Zach, I don't want everyone to die just because I didn't want to go on a stupid quest." he sat back down and I could tell he wasn't happy about, but he could get over it.

~*~

I walked across the cafe, all eyes on me. Stupid gossipers; the whole place knew about the quest and it had only been a few days. As soon as I had left Kiron's office, I saw a whole bunch of kids scatter down the hall as if they had been listening, which they probably had.

Stupid school; what exactly was it we learned here? I mean was it all Greek Mythology, even if it wasn't mythology? Or did we learn math and english too? Before I could finish my thoughts, a whole bunch of kids ran down the hallway screaming "they're here!"

Who? I decided to follow them outside and onto the big field. The crowd reminded me of when I first came; it was thick with people so seeing was a little hard. Finally the crowd disperesed to the sides and allowed an asile through them. Walking between them were two people; a boy and a girl, they looked exactly alike; both with straight black hair, a perfect face, and the same height.

It was weird, they reminded me of myself, like looking at a reflection except the hair was different. They made their way down the aisle of people. The girl glanced at me and her eyes widened. She stopped and gaped, "A-are you Halia?" she asked, her tone quiet.

I stared at her, slightly confused, and nodded, "Uh...Yeah,"

She pulled me in and hugged me tightly, "I have waited my whole life to meet you," She stepped back quickly, "Oh, sorry I just get carried away sometimes,"

I shook my head, "no it's fine, what was it you said about waiting your whole life?"

She smiled, "Well you see, My brother and I were visited by this old man who said that our lives would change in the form of a girl who's name meant the sun, whatever that meant. But then today happened and I realized your name means the sun," by this time she was jumping.

"Okay," I glanced at the guy, who was standing there with a bored expression on his face, "Hi, I'm your new sister,"

"I know," was all he said before marching past me and into the school.

"Sorry, Nolen is a little depressing. Oh I'm Nicole by the way," she shook my hand enthusiastically. She was probably a little too peppy for her own good. With that, I led her into the school.
