Tiana's POV
After eating, Marcel volunteered to wash the dishes, leaving me with Gemma and his mom at the table. I was still kind of shy though but that would be embarrassing if I won't talk to the owners of the house so I decided to start a conversation.
Until Gemma spoke up first.
"So, Tiana, how did you and Marcel become friends?" she said peeling a piece of banana.
"Uhm, we started to become friends ever since we teamed up as participants for the Science fair last year," I said "We talk sometimes but we weren't actual friends that time."
"Why?" Anne said sitting down beside us.
"Well..."
"Is it because he's like that?" Gemma said as they both looked at me straight in the eye.
"What do you mean, 'like that'?" I said as they exchanged looks.
"He told us how much people are pushing him away in school. Especially girls." Anne said "We asked him last semester if he'd like to transfer school but he just wouldn't."
"Plus, he's had his heart badly broken once." Gemma added as I gave her a questioning look.
"Really? Why and with whom?" I asked as Gemma started telling the story.
"He's had a huge crush on this girl back when he was 14 years old. The gal's name was Patricia. One day, Marcel told us that he'd be courting Patricia so he called her one afternoon to go somewhere where he prepared a small dinner and candles lighting up the pathway of the bridge towards the small dinner table." she said as I paid attention placing my chin on the palm of my hand.
"And then what happened?" I asked as Anne sighed.
"She never came," she said sighing "My poor baby got so upset that he kicked all the candles off the bridge and left the small dinner table as he came home looking so awful." she added as I managed to make a small frown.
"That's sad," I said as they nodded in silence.
"Anyway," Gemma said cutting off the silence between us "You like my brother don't you?"
"What? How can you say that?" I said in shock as Gemma laughed.
"I'm a girl too, Tiana, and I know it when a girl likes a boy especially when that boy's my brother." she said grinning at me as I blushed. "I can see it by the way you look at him."
"Uhm..." I said as Gemma laughed.
"Okay fine, let me just ask you. What are your plans for this afternoon?"
"I actually don't have any plans right now.. I guess I'll start doing my last two requirements to pass this Friday." I said then Marcel came in wiping his hands with a cloth as Gemma quickly glanced at him.
"Marcel can help you!" Gemma said nodding and pointing at Marcel who looked at us in slight shock.
"What?" he said as I shook my head.
"No, it's okay, I don't want to bother--"
"Can you help Tiana do her requirements which will be passed this Friday? She needs a helping hand." Gemma said as I slapped my forehead slightly.
"Oh, no problem," Marcel said "I'll get some stuff in my room."
"Why not work in your room, honey?" Anne said "It's better to work there since it's spacious and you can show Tiana your bookshelf there." she added smiling at Marcel as Marcel placed his hand behind his neck.
"Is it okay with you?" Marcel said shyly looking at me as I bit my lower lip.
"Uhm..."
"Yes, so run along now you two, the deadline's on Friday." Gemma said cutting me off as Anne laughed leaving Marcel and I in an awkward situation.
"My room's this way..." Marcel said leading me upstairs to his room.
Okay so this is awkward.
But hey, look at the positive side. I can be closer to Marcel and be actual friends with him.
I hope our feeling's mutual.
