Tiana's POV
"We choose Tiana Lynn Carter."
Hailey Green said as my teammates stared at me which made me gulp and stepped forward.
As we three stood in front of the single stands, the speaker finally revealed our topic about whether death penalty should be supported or not.
Okay I guess I can handle this.
After 3 minutes, James Von from Stanford stepped in and spoke about how death penalty shouldn't be supported because of its unjust ways of punishing criminals and such. He delivered his speech well until he paused for a minute or two and kept on stuttering when the timer was near to zero which discouraged the judges and they seemed unimpressed.
I was the second one to speak
"Death penalty has been done since the 1990 and in my own perspective and views on it, I would want it to be approved and supported." I said which slightly shocked the audiences and the judges.
I cleared my throat to shake off some nervousness as Derek mouthed the words "breathe" so I inhaled deeply and exhaled and spoke again.
"It should be approved and supported because I only see it as a threat for the criminals. It's not really done just to kill people but just to blackmail them to stop them from doing wrong things." I said which made the judges smile and listened more carefully to me.
I delivered the speech for the next 6 minutes until I finally concluded it. The audience then applauded as I took a seat and wished Derek good luck.
Derek did a very impressive speech about how it shouldn't be approved or supported which is pretty much convincing to me but, seeing the faces of the judges, I guess they weren't that impressed.
After 5 neck-stiffing hours of the whole debate, the judges has finally made their decision on who would gain the point for the clincher round.
"And now, the student who received the last point and with the team with an overall average of 98.09% for the clincher round..." the speaker said, opening his card "Tiana Lynn Carter from the University of London!" he exclaimed which made us jumped and hugged each other.
We shook hands with out opponent and we all grouped hug with happiness-- because we can finally go home and rest without studying.
"Congrats!" Derek said, hugging me tight as I hugged back.
"You too! You did great!" I said as he smiled.
"Thank you," he said as we heard a camera click.
"Gotcha lovebirds!" Heather said snapping a picture of us hugging as we pulled away.
"Beat it, Heather, Tiana belongs to Marcel." Fallon said cutting in as we laughed.
"Speaking of that guy, you're seeing him again tomorrow!" Derek said as I nodded "Don't forget me okay?" he added laughing.
"Of course not!" I said laughing "I'll tell him all about you." I added as he smiled.
"Anyway, Tiana, catch you tomorrow morning okay? Before you leave for the airport. I have something to give you as a remembrance." Derek said as I nodded.
"Okay! Stay safe!" I said waving at him as he smiled and walked away.
THIS IS THE BEST DAY EVER! I'm gonna call Marcel!
On second thought, I'll make this as a surprise.
To Marcel:
Will be home tomorrow. See you :) x.
I can't wait to tell him about the good news.
