Beep...Beep....Beep

My eyes fluttered open. I was in a white room with a bright light.

A hospital?

Immediately I remembered what happened.

My baby. My baby!

"My baby! My baby! What happened to my baby!"  The tubes and wires all over me made me panic even more. The nurses ran in to calm me down.

"My baby! Please my baby! What happened to it?!" I screamed.

"Your baby is under watch. The car crash you were in was very close to fatal, but thanks to your seatbelt and your hero you made it out alive. You baby is well, but anything can happen at this point. Panicking will only make it worse so calm down for you and the baby's sake."

I exhaled the breath I didn't know I was holding and nodded my head. My tears started pooling in my eyes. I rubbed my belly.

"I'm so sorry. Im so so sorry baby." I hated myself. Because of my weakness, I almost killed me and my baby. I wasn't fit to be a mother.

"JUST LET ME SEE HER!" my head turned to the door. There was a lot of commotion in the hallway. Tara ran into the room to my bed and gave me the biggest hug.

"Oh my god Lyla I'm so sorry. This is my fault. I should've found you I should've went after you. I should've stopped you from leaving. I should've never made you go to that ball. You almost died Lyla! And its all-" she started shaking. "Its all my fault." I hugged her back.

"No Tara it isn't. I ran out on my own because I'm too weak when it comes to death. I'm glad you made me go, I would've missed what Tyler had to say. Don't blame yourself. I did this to me and my baby, its no ones fault but mines."

We stayed there like that for a while, hugging and crying, and then I realised.

"Wait, if you didn't find me, then who did."

She let go of me and wiped her eyes.

"It was Zion. He went after you when you ran out because I was too stuck to move. He followed you in his car but then you started screaming and lost control of the wheel before you noticed him. He called the ambulance. If he didn't go after you, you would've never made it, no one would've noticed your car in the place it was with that rain. He hasn't even left the 2 days you were asleep in this place.

He was still here? Why did he come after me if we just met? Why didn't he leave?

"He's still here?" She nodded at me.

"He's just sitting there waiting to make sure everything is okay. I don't think he's leaving till you come out."

"Can you bring him here? I need to talk to him." She nodded.

"Ill try, but these nurses are some real cranky bitches. I had to fight my way in here." She walked out and not too long after Zion appeared in the door. He had a white t-shirt on with his uniform shirt in his hand. He stood there not moving.

"Come in." He took a step forward and then another before ending up in the chair by my bed. "You followed me..?" He nodded. "You called the ambulance?" He nodded again. "You stayed here this whole time?" He nodded once more. "You saved me." He froze, then shook his head, "No. I couldn't do anything for you. I didn't save you." I shook my head.

"If you didn't follow me, no one would've found me. I would've been dead, my baby would've been dead." I froze.

"No. My baby could've been dead regardless. It's my fault. I almost killed me baby." I felt the tears start running down my face when Zion came and grabbed my hand.

"No, we all have emotions, and sometimes we don't know how to deal with them. It is not your fault. Do not blame yourself."

I looked up at him. Why was he so sweet to me? I just met him and he already came to my rescue saving me and the baby's life.

"Thank you. There are no words I can use to show you how much in dept I am to you. My baby and I are alive because of you, and don't take that credit away from yourself."

He nodded his head and walked further into the room. "So how are you feeling? The crash was pretty bad but you don't look it." I rubbed my belly.

"Well thanks to you the doctors say me and my baby will more than likely be fine." He nodded.

"Can I get you anything?" He asked putting his hands in his pocket. "Ugh, I'm craving a burger and fries, but I don't think they would allow that right now. But could you ask for an extra blanket? I'm sort of cold." He nodded his head and turned around.

When he returned he carried a white blanket in his hand. He opened it and spread it over me on the bed as I watched him. I didn't smile much, or talk a lot. As he moved to spread the balnket his white shirt hugged his muscles on his chocolate skin.

"Is that better?" I cleared my throat. "Mhm, yeah thank you I already feel warmer. He nodded.

"Well if that's all I can go sit outside now so you can get some rest..." I nodded. He turned and started walking out towards the door.

"Wait..." he turned, "can you stay with me? I'd rather company, I'm not tired." He walked back and took a seat in the chair by my bed.

"So you're in the military?" He nodded his head. "For how long?"

"Since I was 18." I didn't know his age so I asked, "and how long ago was that?"

"4 years." I nodded my head. We continued to talk, getting to know about each other until I felt the next pills they gave me kick in. The last thing I remember that i felt like was a dream was Zion tucking me in whispering, "I'll always protect you."
