Match (a Keeper of the Lost Cities Fanfiction)

Chapter 4

A/N: I have to thank @sapphiredragon1 for suggesting Sophie and Keefe (insert idea here). 'Cause I never would have thought of that! And I used it...so ya.

Sophie stood at the front of the crowd as a gnome walked onto the stage. The gnome put down a potted plant and closed it's eyes. Slowly opening them, it spread out it's hands and the plant started to grow, slowly getting bigger and bigger, it twisted it's way into the sky. Then, flowers appeared on on the branches and its sweet smelling scent washed over the crowd. Sophie breathed in the smell, petals floated down and into her hair. Suddenly, Keefe appeared next to her. His hand brushed hers and Sophie felt sparks. Glancing at Keefe, she almost missed the gnome doing a final flourish and the tree shrinking back to its normal size. The crowd cheered as the gnome backed off the stage.

"And now we have a special announcement," Alden walked up to the stage, "The gnomes are also going to preform music for the Closing Dance. Fitz will choose the lady of which he would like to dance with first. Once the dance is over, you are welcome to join them." There was polite clapping and a few disgruntled murmurs, Sophie remembered that the elves didn't like music. Fitz walked onto the stage and Sophie tried not to get her hopes up, We're just friends, nothing more. But she still hoped that Fitz chose her. Slowly, Fitz scanned the crowd until his eyes landed on one girl, blushing, he pointed at her and quickly said "Linh," 

Sophie felt her heart shatter, but she also felt something like relief. Now she didn't have to worry about whether or not Fitz liked her, and she was free to like anyone she wanted. Sophie sighed happily, "Watcha sighing about Foster? Happy that you're going to dance with me?" Sophie looked at Keefe "I am?" Nervousness flashed across Keefe's face, but it was gone so quick, Sophie wasn't sure if it was real. Keefe ran a hand through his hair "Unless you don't want to. Though, I don't see how any girl would pass up the chance to dance with the Mighty Keefe," Sophie smiled, "I'd love to dance with you Keefe!" The music started and Fitz and Linh took the stage. They stared at each other's eyes and Sophie could tell that they were smitten. Biana appeared next to her, she sighed. "Young love, I LOVE IT SO MUCH!" she squealed, just being heard over the music. Sophie laughed, "They are adorable aren't they?"Linh and Fitz stared into each other's eye's, completely oblivious to everything around them. 

Finally, the song ended and Keefe pulled Sophie onto the dance floor. Sophie spotted Dex and Biana dancing too. She smiled, left over flower petals floated down on them. Keefe whirled her around and dipped her. He pulled her back up and she stared into his eyes, they were gorgeous. How had she not noticed that before? Keefe lifted her in time with the music and twirled her. Sophie was so caught up with dancing, that she didn't notice the crowd forming around them.  Keefe did a final wirl as the music ended and they faced each other, out of breath. Keefe smiled, "You dance well Foster," Sophie blushed. A new song started and Dex walked up to her, "Um, Sophie? Do you want to dance with me?" Sophie looked at him, his face was tomato red. "Sure Dex!" Glancing back at Keefe, Dex led her away.

Sophie danced with Dex. She looked around the floor for Keefe and found him dancing with Biana. He winked at her and Sophie looked away so that he would see her blush. After a couple more songs, Alden announced that the gnomes had run out of songs. Sophie went to go see if they had replaced the Mallowmelt, she was about to grab a piece when Biana appeared in front of her and Sophie dropped it. "NOOOOO!" Sophie moaned. Biana glanced at the squished Mallowmelt, "Sorry Sophie! But we can apply for the matchmaking scrolls now!" Sophie moaned again as Biana pulled her towards the mounds of paperwork. 

Why did I agree to do this? Sophie wondered as Biana eagerly waited in line. Finally, they reached the front and a stern elf with pointy ears handed them their stacks of paper. Biana squealed "OMG I JUST CAN'T WAIT!!!" Sophie sighed and started filling out the papers. A couple of hours later, Sophie and Biana walked back to the line to turn in the papers. Sophie spotted Keefe, Dex, and Fitz handing in theirs. After they turned them in, Sophie walked over and was finally able to grab some Mallowmelt. She reached out to grab a piece when a stray flower petal blinded her, she flailed in panic and accidentally knocked over the tray of Mallowmelt. Right onto the stern elf who handed her her papers. Sophie turned around in panic and saw Keefe kneeling over clutching his stomach laughing. "It's not funny!" Sophie said "We have to get out of here!" Sophie and Keefe ran into the living room and Keefe gasped for breath. "That was the funniest thing I have ever seen!" he gasped Sophie tried not to smile "The look on his face was priceless," she said and then she also collapsed laughing next to Keefe.
