Chapter 1- Wonderland
Thunder echoed through the night, lighting slashing violently through the London skies. The big Ben clock stood in the far distance, light emanating from its long fingers as they struck eleven. It was almost midnight, and the city was glowing with so many vibrant colors. Noises sounded in the distance colliding with the loud booming of thunder.
The lights in the small room were dimmed, and the curtains were pulled to the sides. A small girl opened her eyes slowly, and woke up. She yawned tiredly, as she pulled the bed covers over her small frame. Forcing herself to stand up, and get out of bed.
Her feet carried her to the window, her heart thumping as she sat down on the small chair that faced the outside.
“So beautiful,” she whispered as she stared out the window. She brought a hand to the window, and her fingertips lingered on the cold feeling.
“Jane…are you up?” A hoarse voice asked through a yawn.
The door to her room opened slightly, and a head popped out his lazy grey eyes blinked at her. She nodded her head gently knowing her brother could see her. And he slid in her room, stretching his arms over his head.
“Why are you here Liam?” She asked as she stared back at the city that was still as lively as ever, even though it was raining.
“I woke up because of the rain, and decided to check on my little sister,” he said shrugging his shoulders as he strolled to her small bed and sitting on the edge of it. “I guess you woke up too.”
“Yeah, it’s really pretty outside,” she answered as she stood up from the chair and went back into her warm bed. It was getting colder every second, and not even the heater was helping.
“Pretty? Only you would think this hell of a storm would be beautiful,” he grumbled flopping his back to the bed.
“Hey, who said you could sleep in my bed,” she growled out, a small smile tugging on her lips.
He looked up at her with an innocent gaze; giving her his puppy eyes. And she almost burst out laughing; did he really think she would fall for that silly trick? After all he was the one that taught her how to do it.
“Please little sister?” He pleaded with his puppy eyes.
“Well…if you read me a story,” she answered puling the covers up to her chin to hide her smile. Her brother had always told her the best stories ever since she was a toddler. It always pleased her when he rambled about certain adventures of his fantasies.
“Okay deal, and this time I’ll read one from your bookshelves,” he replied as he stood up and walked over to her shelf full of old books her great grandma had passed down to her. She never had a chance to read them, because she was always busy.
“Eh? But I wanted you to tell me your stories,” she complained a small frown appearing on her heart shaped face.
“Too bad, you didn’t tell me what kind of stories,” he said as he bent on his knees and looked at the organized books staked neatly. He skipped through a few books that mostly were covered by dust and then he came about a unique book in the far left corner. The cover was made out of leather and the letters on the book were in written in script, a picture of a detailed eye the size of a fist was closed in the background.
