Chapter 1

Death due me apart

“Will you be staying after school today Rena?” Her mother asked with curiosity as she washed a few dishes while singing a small tune. Rena’s mother had a huge smile displayed on her face as she cleaned in the morning. It was unusual of her, since her mother wasn’t a morning person.

“Yes, I have to tutor some kids from school,” Rena replied as she put her literature books back in her school bag, and drank the last of her orange juice. She was anxious to go back to school and begin her daily life as always.

“That’s wonderful sweetheart, remember that you have to arrive before your father returns from his business trip,” she reminded her. And everything clicked in at once; Rena’s mother had woken up early because her step-father was coming back from his stupid trip.

“Okay mom,” she replied as she grabbed her school bag. She was more than ready to leave; honestly she didn’t really care about her step-father coming back. It would have been better if he stayed back in Russia where he was currently assigned.

“Oh, and tell Damien and Nicky that they need to be home early,” her mother added just as Rena was about to walk out of the kitchen. Rena nodded and left the two-story house, her feet hitting the concrete as she took the route to her high school.

It has been a total of two years since her mother has gotten married once again, and brought in her new husband into Rena’s life. Not only that but she was surprised to find out she has new siblings, Damien and Nicky. They both resembled Roger her step-dad in appearance, both with blonde light hair almost the color of faded yellow, and had remarkable turquoise eyes that absorbed your attention. Rena hadn’t minded the first week, but after the twins revealed their true colors she honestly didn’t want anything to do with them.

Its complete torture having them around, since she felt like Cinderella by the way she was treated behind her parents backs. If Nicky wasn’t being bitchy and criticizing her, then she would be making her life a living hell. All Nicky ever succeeded was in making her look like the bad child. And Damien always looked at her with distaste, sometimes ignoring her completely. At school he told his friends she was nobody of importance, and he didn’t even know her.

It was sad but she kept to herself, and put all her attention in her studies and grades. If she wanted to do something fun she would go to the library and read novels. Nobody associated with her, because of her step-siblings. Thus she was classified as a loser, emo, and loner.

“Excuse me!” A man’s voice interrupted her from her thoughts, and in a second she was pushed by a tall man to the side. Barely making her lose her balance, but fortunately caught herself in time. The man turned around slowly his face looked sincere and guilty; he looked as if he was in a hurry. “Sorry!” He yelled before turning back and dashing north in the sidewalk, suitcase in hand.

Rena shook her head at the man, but none the less continued her boring silent walk to the school grounds. She made it just in time, with ten minutes to spare before her first class began. And she couldn’t wait to go to art and begin her assignment for today; if it wasn’t for school she was sure to have been a withered hollow tree by now.

Rena entered the school main hall, where all the lockers stood in the sides of the walls. The hall was bustling with students, lockers being opened here and there, and students getting ready for first period.
