After getting dressed, I made sure my locket was still safely around my neck before leaving our house, grabbing my hat on the way out. I made my way over to the blacksmith's, mother had told me once that father had once worked here. I enjoyed coming her because it made me feel closer to him, like he was actually here.
Once I pushed open the large wooden door, I silently made my way in. Looking around I saw the old blacksmith where he usually was, passed out drunk in a chair, his bottle still tightly in his hand. Shaking my head I made my way over to the wrack of swords. I gently picked up the same sword I always did. It was plain, and scratched from the hours of use.
I placed my pirate-looking hat down on the anvil before starting my routine. My feet moving gracefully as I swung the sword in aggressive patterns. My routine, I do this everyday, for the past few years. My breathing picked up and became heavy, my heart pounded hard in my chest.
By the time I had finished, sweat was pouring down my face, and my hair and clothes were a mess. I quickly put the sword back in it's place. I grabbed my hat, putting it on while shoving all my hair under it.

I kept my head down as I walked through the streets of town. I didn't want to be noticed and I prayed I wouldn't be. "Raina!" I sighed of coarse someone would notice me...they always do. I turned to see who had spoken. The person ran up to me and I saw that it was Erik. GREAT. I detested him! He was arrogant, rude, and completely full of himself...and worst of all, he was interested in ME.
I glared at him straight in the eye, we were just the same height. "Well, well Raina." He said condescendingly, "You look...beautiful today?" I snorted, he was always quite a charmer. His eyes twinkled with mischief as he pulled my hat from my head. My long dark hair tumbled down my back in a knotted mess. People, mostly men, stopped to stare at me. It was very uncomfortable with all their eyes on me.
"Wow! You look worse than I initially thought!" he laughed. I huffed and grabbed for my hat. He was too quick as he pulled it behind his back, just out of my reach. As
I leaned over slightly, trying to grab the hat, my locket slipped out from under my shirt. He looked down curious, and grabbed it, making the chain dig into my neck. I winced and he noticed, pulling the chain even farther. "What's this? A little locket from your mommy?" "No, it was a gift from my father" I growled through my teeth. I hated him touching my locket, it was all I had to remember him. He opened it and looked shocked as the lullaby began to play, "Ugh! What is that awful noise! That is absolutely unbearable! " he exclaimed while clamping his hands over his ears, realeasing his hold on my locket. I quickly shut it and put it back under my shirt.
I felt the prickle of tears as I started walking away, I couldn't let them see me like this. As the tears started flowing faster, my pace picked up also. By the time I made it down to the shore, I was full out sprinting. I slowed as my feet made contact with the soft whit sand. I reached down and slipped off my boots, letting my feet sink into the sand. The feeling instantly started to calm me. I walked along the beach, enjoying the feeling of sand between my toes and the sound of the crashing waves.
I longed to be out there, out on the open ocean. Nearer to my father.
I made my way towards the waters edge, letting the water rush over my feet. I sat down on the wet sand and pulled out the locket. I opened it, letting the hauntingly beautiful lullaby float through the air. The music brought back the memories of his visit, and with that more tears. I missed him, even though I never knew him as well as I wanted. I quickly regained control of my emotions.
As I wiped my eyes I looked out onto the horizon. I saw a sight that seemed somehow familiar. Floating far on the horizon was a ship, one with black sails. Realisation hit me as I stood up, this was the ship from my memory!
I started running, back towards the house. I have to tell mother!
