Cody lays on my bed as I brush my teeth, leaning on the door frame. He looks at me and then jumps.
Thunder rolls outside, and I wash my mouth out, and sit beside him as lightning illuminates the room. He picks up his phone and puts it to his ear.
"Dad, yeah it's me... No I'm not coming home in this... Unless you want to drive me... Fine, I'll come home as soon as the storm passes... Yes, Dad... Bye." Cody gets off the phone, and I sit by him.
"What happened?" He smiles at me.
"I get to stay with you and Carter for the weekend." I grin.
"Really?" He nods.
"Meterologists say the storm won't leave until Monday. And something that will please you. I'm enrolling into your school as of Monday." I shoot my arms into the air, and grin.
"Yay me!" I holler, and fall back onto my bed. He wraps his arms around my stomach, and I lay my head on his chest. His chin rests on the top of my head, and I smile.
I know we had agreed to be friends, but as of right now, I wish he really was either my boyfriend or husband.... I wouldn't mind either one.
But as I think this, I feel his heart beating faster than normal.
"Cody, you okay?" I ask him, looking at him. He nods, and smiles down at me, not bothering to really answer.
"Riley?" Mom calls. I get out of Cody's embrace, and go downstairs.
"Yeah, Mom?" I see her smile.
"Is he staying this weekend?" I nod.
"Yeah." I grin.
"You really like him don't you?" I nod.
"Well, duh, Mom.." I give her a look.
"You know what I mean." He gives me her look, and I back off.
"Yeah, but I just... I feel like if we did be an actual couple, it'd ruin our friendship." She laughs.
"You guys act like actual husband and wife anyway. Honey, if you love him, get him. He's already yours. I married a man like him. Your father would not stop looking and flirting with other girls. Cody, well.. That boy is different. But he's the good different. He treats you like a queen. I'd say, grab the opportunity by the throat and run with it." She grins. I smile, and nod, and she hugs me. "Just remember. There's no harm in trying." She kisses my forehead and lets me go, and I run upstairs. I look at Cody, smirking at me.
"You just.... Heard... All...." He nods. "Aawwkkwwaarrdd.." I whisper, and lay down next to him.
"And Riley?" I look up at him, and his lips barely touch mine. "If you want to... We could... Give it a try.." I smile, and he closes the space between us, and kisses me. I kiss him back, and my heart flutters. Butterflies start formin in mt stomach, and before long, he ends it.
"Yeah.. That would be nice." I whisper, and he grins. Thunder booms, and I jump about six fert into the air, and Cody laughs.
"Okay, I'll be your thunder buddy tonight." I pout, and get under the covers, smiling and falling asleep on his chest.
* Next Day *
I wake up and find Cody missing. I yawn, stretch, and put on shorts and a tank top. Thunder makes me jump again, and I walk downstairs. My mind goes a million miles an hour, as I see Cody and my mom cooking in the kitchen. I hide behind the wall, and Carter comes up behind me.
"What are we hiding from?" Carter whispers.
"Cody and Mom. I want to see how they get along now." I peek around the corner. To my delight, they seem to be getting along just fine.
"Can I go over there?" I nod.
"But don't say I'm awake. Please." He nods, and goes to the kitchen.
"Ohh, hey Carter. Where's Riley?" Mom asks.
"In bed, probably still asleep." He lies.
"I'll get her." Cody says, and I hurriedly run to my bedroom, and pretend that I'm asleep. I feel the bed dip on his side, and then I feel him push my hair away from my face.
"You're so beautiful." He whispers, and kisses my jaw. I fight the urge to kiss him, and continue to pretend sleep. He gently shakes me, and I groan.
"What?" I grumble into my pillow.
"Everybody is up, Riles. C'mon, breakfast is almost done." I shake my head.
"I don't wanna get up." I grumble again.
"If you get up, I will let you watch Netflix all day. Well, if the storm knocks out the power, I'll come up with something." I crook an eyebrow.
"Really?" He nods.
"Really." I sigh, and stretch my arms out above my head.
"There's my Riley!" He laughs, and watches me like a creeper.
"You're a freaking creeper, dude, ssttaahhpp." I complain.
"But if I don't wanna?" I growl.
"Don't test me first thing in the morning, Maze. Lesson number one. Ask Carter about that." I literally roll off my bed, and land on my butt. "Owie." I mumble, and get up. He smiles, as I go to the bathroom to put my hair into a messy bun. I sleepily walk downstairs, and plop myself down at the counter.
"Good morning, Sleeping Beauty." Mom sarcastically says. I wave, and fall asleep, holding my head up with my hand.
"Riley!!!" Cody shakes me.
"I'm up!" I yell, almost falling over onto the ground.
"Sorry." He wraps his arms around my stomach, and lays his head on my shoulder.
I almost tell him that I like this position, but Mom puts a plate of pancakes and bacon in front of me, which I devour.
