Vanessa POV
" I can do it
I can do it
I can do it", I pause. Do I even believe the words I am singing to myself? Do I trust that I can do it? No, don't show doubt! It effects your singing! I mentally scold myself. I can do it I think as I continue pushing out the words to the song Only Human.
" But I'm only human
And I bleed when I fall down
I'm only human
And I crash and I break down!" Stop singing now! I shout at myself, I know it's weird, but this song tells basically the story of my life. I sniffle back my tears, and that's when I hear shuffling behind me. I slowly turn around, afraid of what I will see. Instead of a terrifying police officer ready to take me back to see my dad, I see Michael Stephens. Filthy rich, captain of the football team, party animal, Michael Stephens. He is really popular and is dating one of the girls in the choir class before me. Tiffany, I think. " Hey! You have an amazing voice. You shouldn't be hiding it from everyone." He says. I stare blankly at him, until I mumble the words" Thanks."
" No prob! I'm Michael! Who are you? I have never seen you before."
" V...V...Vanessa Vozeh." I sigh out of my body. "Well Vanessa..." He says, smiling as he says my name," You have an incredible voice! I have never heard any like it." Wow! Is he being a suck up? What is his motive though? It is almost as if he senses how uncomfortable this talk is between us, because he starts fidgeting with his khaki shorts. "Um... So what's your homelife like?" he questions me. Great! The one thing I didn't want him to ask. I think  sarcastically. " Um... I live with my dad. He's... on vacation right now." I slowly share with him. The first time I meet the big jock, I lie right to his face. Great way to start a relationship! Wait! Did I just say that?
     " So..." Michael prolongs awkwardly, " That's my girlfriend's music you were singing. I kinda need to have it back. She has to practice it tonight."
"Oh right! Here sorry to keep you here so long!" I stutter and hand him the music notes that bounce off the page when I sing them. I stare intently at the page, hoping he notices how much that paper means to me.
     "Thanks!" he says and walks towards the door, then he suddenly turns around and says to me " By the way, You sing that song way better than my girlfriend ever could!" He winks at the end and I began to blush. I began to pack up my stuff and head out the choir door, but when I walk outside I realize Michael is still here.
" I'll walk you outside." He states, not really giving me a choice. Once we make it outside, I hear the roar of Michael's red Chevy Camaro front of the school. His friends yelling in the back seat with Tiffany sitting in shotgun screaming at them to shut up. " Logan, Jason, Zane! Be quiet! Or no Smoothie King! And Tiffany, I got your papers." Michael hollers over their commotion.
" Thanks babe!" She yells back.
Michael rolls his eyes and looks at me" Do you want to go with us?"
" No thanks. My umm... Dad is picking me up soon. " Great! Another lie! " He'll be here soon." I reply.
" Oh okay. Well, I'll see you later Vanessa!" He says, looking upset that I am not coming with him. I wonder why?
Michael loads himself into the driver seat, waves at me, then drives away. As soon as I can see that he is out of view, the police cars swarmed around me. Going back to see the old man again !
