Elvis always loved music his mother said that when he was young he would jump off her lap and run up the isle to see the church choir. He would then try to sing along with them but at the time he could not understand the words to well and he could not follow along with them. When Elvis was two years old his father went to jail for forging  a check. The check was for a hog he sold he sold it for $40 but the man cheated him and wrote $4. His family was very poor so he was not able to buy new clothes and at one point they could not afford shoes so they had to walk everywhere barefoot even in the snow. His family ended up moving a lot so his father could better paying jobs but it never worked and they kept getting poorer and poorer.

When Elvis was 13 years old he got his first guitar. People around the neighborhood and one of the choir singers taught Elvis to play the guitar. Elvis would bring his guitar everywhere unless it was raining because at the time they could not afford to get a case. He would always play songs during homeroom to kids would gather all around to hear him play. At one point a couple people decided to cut his guitar cords. Elvis could not afford to fix them so people in the school gathered money and got him new cords.
