Kayleigh P.O.V
Breathe in.
Breathe out.Seems like a simple task, but Storm was having trouble. He tried to keep control as Jamie continued to wind him up.
"I said" Jamie's voice echoed in my ears. He was making me angry too but I wasn't going to show it. "That there's no point trying to flirt with Kayleigh, because she wouldn't be interested in a pathetic, dark..." Jamie made quote marks. "Lowlife like you who cuts for attention!"
I heard the class erupt into "oohs" and intakes of breath, but I was only only concentrating on one thing that Jamie had said. Storm self harms?
Mindlessly, I gently pulled Storm's wrist bands up his arm. Sure enough there were multiple red cuts and scars which showed he'd done it recently and for a long time. Storm yanked his arm away and put it under the table away from my view.
"Jamie get out now!" Miss . Parker yelled pointing a purple finger nail towards the door. Jamie was about to get up when his eyes landed on Storm's drawing book that he hadn't destroyed and the smirk returned. "What's in that one then freak? haven't seen it before." Storm heald it close to him. "Obviously, or I wouldn't have it anymore" he replied. "Let's have a look then." Jamie said hopping over his table and walking towards us with his hand out. Storm shoved the table forward and it hit Jamie in the groin. Everyone was staring at them, waiting to see who would make a move.
Jamie closed his eyes whilst the pain went away and then they were straight back to Storm. Cold like they always were.
"That wasn't a smart move freak" he said grabbing the book from Storm's loosened grip. He got up to lunge at Jamie, but I heald him back. "Wait"
Now feeling a lot of eyes on me, I was quite exposed. However I stood my ground and continued. "Storm, if you let Jamie look in the book, then it can prove there's nothing weird and he won't rip it up...will you Jamie." I wasn't asking I was telling him and there was nothing more I could do. If Jamie didn't stop being a dick, then I couldn't control Storm's anger.
Jamie looked at me and I hoped he could tell I wasn't joking. Slowly, he nodded coaxing Storm with his hand to give it to him. Storm didn't seem so keen to agree to my terms. He kept the book in his arms and I could see Jamie's anger rise. Snapping his fingers at Storm in impatient encouragement, all I could wonder was why did Jamie have to be so desperate to annoy anyone who wasn't that popular and always get his own way. It had definitely caused us problems in the past.
I was about to take the book for myself so this situation would be over and done with, when Jamie's hand flew past my face and latched onto the top of Storm's Motionless In White T-Shirt. "Give me the fucking book!" Jamie shouted in his face causing his hot breath to fan over Storm's face making him cowar away slightly.
He made a grab for the book again, but it slipped out of his hand and landed open on the desk. I was about to snap and rip Jamie to shreds, when my eyes landed on the drawings the book had opened on. On the left was a girl. Half preppy, half alternative like Storm. No one could deny it was an amazing piece, but I couldn't shake the feeling she reminded me of someone.
As my eyes moved to the other side, I realised how silent the classroom had become and new everyone was staring at the drawings. The other picture was a close up of the same girl and my heart stopped. I dared not believe who I thought it was.
"It's you" I heard a voice say quietly.
I ignored it hoping I'd imagined it. "Kayleigh it's you" I heard again, slightly louder this time. My eyes met Jamie's as I looked up. We stared at each other for a few seconds before our eyes made their way back down to the book.
Jamie laughed cruely. It was quiet at first, but then he got louder. "That's why you didn't want us to see" he said between gasps of breath from how hard he was laughing and I wasn't sure whether he was faking it anymore. "You're a fucking stalker!"
Jamie was still laughing over dramatically, but my emotions were too all over the place to notice. All I could feel was my heart pounding as I bent down and picked up the potraits. The whole class was staring at me and I didn't have a clue what they were thinking, but I didn't care. Flicking through the pages, all the girls looked to be the same person. There was nothing inappropriate or creepy which was a relief, just a lot of outfits that looked scarily similar to what I had worn and a few different styles.
"Kayleigh I can explain." I felt Storm touch my arm and I flinched away closing the book. I didn't know what to do as my eyes flicked between both people confusing me most in the world. I looked over to Misha for advice and her eyes flashed to Storm before she came back to me and shook her head with a worried expression.
I turned back to Storm and tried not to get lost in his eyes. "A-are these drawings of me?" I stuttered holding it up opened to pages where the girl was styled to the 1920s. Storm looked guilty as he murmured a "yes but..." I cut him off, shoving the friendship ruiner into his chest and picking up my bag. Staying here for the next hour was not an option. It was then I realised Miss.Parker was no longer in the classroom, probably to call 'back up' if a proper fight had broken out.
"Kayleigh wait" he whispered walking after me as I made my way towards the door. He grabbed my arm and gently pulled me back around to face him. Jamie caught my eye, so reluctantly I yanked my arm away and pushed him hard, causing him to stumble. "Don't touch me!" I shouted, but it came out more strangled because my throat was tight. Storm was past guilty, he looked like I'd just slapped him in the face with my words.
He kept quietly trying to explain, his eyebrows furrowed. I tried to block it out. I didn't want to listen. "I don't want to hear it, just leave me alone Storm." I started to walk out again and this time he didn't follow. Feeling close to tears for some reason, I took one last look and Storm was still staring at me through his bangs. "I thought you were actually pretty cool Storm."
The look he was giving me wasn't the same one Jamie always received. It wasn't anger. It wasn't disappointment.
He just looked like he wanted to disappear.
