It was a lovely and quiet evening. The stars hung proud in the sky, with the brilliant moon to guide them. The land below was also the same….
As always…..
“Damn, damn, damn, DAMN IT!!!!”
Fast, low breaths were heard, so are heavy thumps and steps on the concrete ground.
I am getting tired-tired of running away.
From my fate that long-awaits me.
My one messed lump of a brain can only hear my own frantic feet shuffling through the unusually quiet streets of Southern Ikebukuro. I’m not entirely sure but, some 20 feet away, a whole bunch of thugs are grinding their way up to me-their prey. I can vaguely hear the clangs and clings from the things on their hands. They all sound like they’re so eager to reach my face.
I had to run.
I AM scared.
Who wouldn’t be?
“GYAHHHHH!” I screamed hard as I was escaping with my life dangling from my shoulders, my voice filled with frustration and hopelessness. And then, I was ready to give up when I reached a huge brick wall that separated that alley and oh, another one. That was the end.
I stopped and stared hopelessly at the barrier. That moment was the worst. A wall at a time like this? Seriously?
My body was at its limit and I slumped to the ground like a piece of jelly that flowed out of its container. My breaths were getting deeper and slower. Sweat soaked my entire being.
I only thought of one thing.
‘What a pathetic life I had lived’
As I was busy trying not to lose consciousness I heard one of the old guys with a metal bat panting angrily, “That took you long enough sweetie pie!“ He landed his heavy bat on the ground which then caused a small earthquake that I certainly felt. The others laughed heartily and scarily from the ‘victory’ they had.
Damn it all.
“Hah! This one has put up quite a fight,” another quirkily commented, “Too bad...Your luck has run out.”
Seven hours. Could you imagine? A wild ‘goose chase’ with me and these idiots for a full seven hours. What’s more absurd, is that no cops or even other people tried to help my desperate self from these guys.
Well, there is nothing I can do now. Nothing in this sorry state I am most unfortunately in right now. I am going to die. In this new land, amidst these new race and an absolutely new culture. How depressing. Who would have thought that I’d die in a place like this?
Nothing I can do, I just tried to focus my blurring vision and see who’s going to kill me. At least, I could haunt them if I could.
At the moment a tall bulky frog-looking man wearing a messed up white suit and a weird purple tie. And also, he had a beautiful Japanese sword on his hairy right hand. Exactly like a thug, I could see his smug look on his face and a grin the cut through both his cheeks. His mouth definitely started giving out words, but I couldn’t hear them clearly. Then with a wide grin on his face, he raised his sword above his head.
That’s it.
He is going to kill me.
My fate awaits me.
And that's when......I first met..........................
HIM.
