This is probably one of the saddest things I've ever written. I'm so sorry but I promise this has a happy ending.

Morning.

"Maddie dear. Time to wake up." Lucas heard his mom's voice from down the hall. He whipped the sleep out of his eyes and rolled over to see a head full of long blond hair.

Maya. His mom. Lucas shoot upright. "If she was waking up his sister it would only be minutes until she came to get him up.

"Maya." He said shaking her awake. She groaned and put out her hand to swat his away. "Maya wake up." He whispered harshly.

She opened her eyes and her head shot up once she realized where she was. She head a woman's voice from outside the door. "Shit" she whispered.

There was a knock on the door. "Lucas. Time to get up." He head the door knob turn. Maya was still trying to get on her shoes. Panic flooded through him.

"Uh mom, don't come in I'm – uh- getting dressed." He threw Maya's coat.

The door opened just as his window slammed shut. "What was that?" she asked. "I didn't hear you."

He looked out the window and sighed in relief. Maya was gone. "I just said 'good morning."

"Oh." She said. "well breakfast is ready."

"Thanks mom." She left the room and Lucas was finally able to leave.

Monday.

Lunch was a series of uncomfortable events for Zay starting with pretending that he didn't know what Maya and Lucas did last weekend and ending with pretending that those two aforementioned people were doing what could only be described as eye fucking each other. Yet Zay was a fun guy and given that he was the only one at the table who knew the relationship status of the aforementioned people was going to use this knowledge to have some fun.

Lucas stood up from the table.

"Can you get me some water while you're up?" Maya asked.

"Sure."

Zay made a quiet whipping sound under his breath.

"What was that?" Lucas asked.

"Nothing" Zay said innocently.

When Riley and Farkle sat down Maya shot Lucas a look.

"Uh I need to go to the library." He said too stiffly and loudly. "Maya needs to come with me for a reason." Maya kicked him from under the table.

They both got up to leave and Maya bumped Zay on her way out. "I'm going to uh, go help them." He got up too.

"What's up with them?" Farkle asked.

"I really don't care anymore." Riley sighed.

Maya stiffened. She hated what had become of her and Riley's friendship. This is why she never wanted her and Lucas to be together no matter how much she liked him. It wouldn't be worth it if she and Riley weren't friends anymore.

Once the three of them cleared the cafeteria, Maya did what she always did when she was upset with herself. Channel it into being upset with the next person she saw.

"Really Ranger-Rick?" She turned her eyes full of fire. "A reason' is that really the best you can come up with?"

"I'm sorry, I'm not good at coming up with things on the spot like that." Lucas was getting better at knowing when Maya was mad at him verses mad about something else. While he knew apologizing wouldn't do anything it was better than starting a fight with her, which was what he knew she wanted.
