Hey, this is the first chapter of the story. I hope you like what I'm written, it's still early days and the story hasn't fully developed yet. I might not be able to update as frequently as I would have liked, but please bear with me.

If you like my work so far, you might want to check out another story I am currently writing. It's called My Werewolf Prince. It's a werewolf/romance story and I would really appreciate it if you give it a try. Thanks!

By the way, the names of the chapters are based on Greek legends, so it might be different to to gods you are familiar with. There's a bit of an explanation for each one.

The events, people and sequence created is purely fictional, and it is purely a coincidence is it matches with something/somebody in real life. The plot and characters have been created from the author's imagination. This is a piece of fiction, not a true story.

1. The Fates - Three goddesses who controlled the metaphorical thread of life of every mortal from birth to death, directing fate without obstruction.

I'm running late for school.

With my only form of transport as a rickety old bicycle, you wouldn't be surprised. My legs are starting to burn from pedaling as fast as I could, the type that takes over your mind. Over sleeping has always been the done thing I couldn't overcome, no matter how hard I try.

Wait, I take that back. There's another goal I haven't achieved yet. Something I, Emma Wright, had set as a lifetime goal. One that involved the famous Carter King. And today was the day that goal might finally change in my life.

Thanks to my unbelievable leg strength, I make it to the front of our black iron school gate just as the last trickle of students are coming in. Parking my bike outside, I check my watch. Two minutes left. Just enough time.

I don't have to weave through the crowd as other people might have to do, they immediately part for me like people were going to contract a life-threatening disease if they touched me. But they aren't shunning me. No, they're avoiding me out of respect and awe. Or at least, that's what somebody told me when I asked them about it.

I should explain. Obviously. Our school, probably like every other one, has ranking for everything. And me? I've been second for as long as I can remember, even when I wasn't in high school. It's been around for so long, that there's even a special name for me. Second. A person a couple of years ago didn't know my name but knew my ranking, so he called me Second. The nickname stuck and now everybody uses it.

I sprint at full speed to my destination - my English class. Today, is the day I might potentially achieve my life-long goal of succeeding Carter King. Even his name got me all fired-up. Everything about him, from his infuriatingly good looks to his family, to simply his name, was perfect. Carter King. Ugh. That gave me the shivers.

You see, Carter is whom is consider my one and worst nemesis. My arch-enemy. My biggest rival. The only opponent that stands in the way of my objective. Which might make sense, as my intention is to purely beat him.

I tumble into the stuffy classroom which brings fond memories.... and also ones I would rather forget (mostly involving Carter continuously smirking at me from the back of the room as I studied to overtake him). The teacher stops in the middle of talking and looks over at my direction, raising an eyebrow.

"Aah, Miss Wright. Glad that you could finally join us." she say deliberately before delivering her judgment.

Still huffing from my rush to school, I swallow and tuck a tendril of my hair behind my ear. "Sorry I'm late, Mrs Jones," I look at my shoes. "It won't happen again."
