“Lucie! Lucie!! Lucie Evans!!”

“Huh. What?!”

“Lucie, since you seem to think that you are vast in the knowledge of ‘mystery’s through the ages’, why don’t you explain to us what story 16 means and the morale behind it?”

Oh hell. Detention here I come!! Sarah’s gonna kill me.

“Detention Miss Evans, my office, you know where it is”

Oh god.

Walking to double English seems to take forever as I walk down the all too familiar school corridors.  Sophie walks beside me talking away in her little bubble, not noticing that I’m not paying any attention to a word she says. I’m not even paying attention to the people around me; I’m too worried about what Sarah will say when she finds out that I’ve got another detention from Mr Slimeball. His real name is Mr Jackson but his hair is always so greasy and he loves giving out detentions so everyone calls him Mr Slimeball. Lol.

As I walk into class I notice two boys standing at the front. Nobody else seems to be paying attention to them, they must be new, I’ve never seen them before.

I take my seat at the back of the class, as usual. Not taking my eyes off the two new boys. There’s something about the brown haired one that I can’t quite put my finger on, he just seems so...so...perfect.

“Ok class, calm down. Come on calm down. Take your seats. Come on now” Mr Brooks begins his class with his usual banter.

“Ok class. We have two new students joining us today. I’d like you to say hello to Edward and Timothy Cooper. Their family has just moved here and I want you all to make them feel welcome. Ok?” he finishes trying to work out the expressions on everybody’s faces; interpretation: and we care how? Just get on with it you old fool.

“Um, ok then. Well, um...Edward why don’t you sit next to...um... oh yes, Miss Evans. Yes, just over there. Um, give us a wave Lucie”

Feeling ugly enough already, I stick my hand in the air and wave it only half heartedly. Then, with a jolt of surprise realise that Edward, the one walking towards me to sit next to me, is the one I couldn’t take my eyes off of earlier! Oh god, I wonder if he noticed. Oh god, oh god, oh god! Why the hell I’m I panicking so much!?! Jeeze, girl, take a chill pill.

“That’s it, yes. And Timothy, why don’t you sit next to...Kathy. Yes, the young lady in the front. Ok then. That’s done. Let’s begin”

Bringing my attention back to the lesson I turn to face the front of the class, but out of the corner of my eye I can see Edward slowly take the seat next to me and place his bag on the floor, then take a pen out of his bag.

“Um, excuse me?”

I almost jump at of my chair when I hear his voice. So soft and musical, almost, inhuman.

“Oh, sorry, I didn’t mean to frighten you”

“Oh no, no. Um, I’m sorry. I wasn’t really concentrating.” Oh god, this is going bad! I quickly let my hair fall around my face to hide my bright red cheeks.

“Are you ok? You seem kinda hot?”

He draws my hair back over my shoulder and places the back of his hand on my forehead.

“Oh, no. I’m fine. Really.” We smile at each other for a moment and then both jump as Mr Brook coughs at the front of the class, drawing our attention back to the lesson.

-

20 minutes later, the school bell rings for the end of lesson. Slowly I stand and begin to pack my stuff.

“Um, do you know where the lunch hall is?”

“Oh um. You know what, I’ve got lunch to, I’ll show the way if you want? It’s so much easier than explaining” I smile again and he smiles back, to show his appreciation.

“Ok, I’d like that. Do you mind if my brother comes to?”

“Of course not, only if you can take walking with my friends as well, I’ll introduce you to them if you want?”

He smiles again and I feel butterflies take flight in my stomach, “yeah ok”

We walk out of class together and find his brother, Timothy-but he prefers Tim. And Edward introduces us only then does he remember that he doesn’t actually know my name either.

“Oh, it’s Lucie. Nice to meet you”

“Hey, yeah you to. So you finally got my dumbass of a brother to talk to somebody hey”

“Um, suppose so. Even though he did start the conversation”

“Yeah, but you’re the first he’s spoken to by choice.”

“I’m privileged”

Then we all laugh.

-

As we walk up to our usual lunch table my friends start to turn their heads as they realise that I’m bringing both new kids to our table. Suddenly all three of us burst out laughing as if we’ve been friends for years.

“Hey guys, um, this is Ed and Tim Cooper. Guys these are my girlfriends Kathy and Sophie, over there is Kathy’s sister Laura, that’s Kathy’s boyfriend Jake and his best friend, who is also my brother-unfortunately-Matt.” I say, pointing to each in time.

After a lot of hay’s and hiya’s and how’s you doing’s we all sit down and begin to eat, Edward one side of me, Tim across the table, Kathy next to him and Sophie the other side of me. They fit in perfectly!
