“Oh no, Matt did you tell Harrison I’ve got a detention again?” I hiss across the table to my older brother. He’s not that much older than me, only a year but we’re still in the same school year-however that works. Both my brothers are older than me and are always playing the role of big brother and protective parent. I don’t know my parents that well, my dad died in a car crash 10 years after I was born and mum went downhill from there. Drunk herself into her grave by my eleventh birthday. Ever since then we’ve been in care, we were lucky to find Sarah. She fell in love with us and hated the idea of us being split up, so she took all of us in and has been great. She feels more like our sister than mother, since I don’t have a sister to confide in, I’ve always told her my problems and she’s helped me through all those teenage, girl things I so wouldn’t have told my brothers!!

“Of course not. But Mr Jackson is his form tutor, remember, he probably told him.”

“Hey guys” my stupid idiot of a brother calls to my friends. They all reply of course, their used to having him come over and talk to us.

“Oh hey, you’re the new guys right. I’m Lulu and Matt’s brother. Nice to meet ya. Hey guys, do you mind if a steal Louie for a min? Thanks. Come on Lu” not giving anyone time to answer; he grabs my hand and pulls me away from the safety of my friends. I pull a face at Edward to show that I’ll be coming back and then back away with my brother so that he doesn’t have to drag me again.

As we turn the corner we stop and Harry looks straight into my eyes, even though he’s my brother I can help adoring his hazel eyes. They are sooo gorgeous!!

“Lucie are you even listening to me?”

“Huh, what? Sorry bro was far away then. What were you saying?”

“Lu you’ve got to start paying attention to people-especially teachers! Otherwise that detention list is just gonna mount up. I’m trying to help you sis! But you’re not letting me!” he then puts his left hand on my shoulder and tilts my face up to look at him with his right,

“Let me in Lulu. Let me see what’s wrong. Please?”

“Nothing's wrong”

“Don’t lie Louie, I’m not stupid. I hear you screaming in the night and find you on the other side of your bedroom crying your eyes out muttering some mumbo jumbo. It hurts me to see you like that sis. Please, tell me what’s wrong? What’s making you so terrified that you stay up all night trying to avoid it?”

Tears are in my eyes now as stare into his and realise that this is really hurting him. Hell, I never wanted to hurt him this bad! I love him for god’s sake!! But I can’t exactly tell him what my dreams are about. It hurts me to think about them.

“I’m sorry, but I’m not ready to talk about it yet. Please, just give me time?”

“Of course Lu. I’ll give you all the time in the world, if in the end, you tell me what’s going on. Till then, you know were I am” then he wraps his arms around me and I nuzzle my face into his chest and let him hold me there. After a minute the bell rang for history and we gently let go of each other.

“I’ll see you later Lu. Take care sis” then he kisses my forehead and walks off to his next class, leaving me to shuffle back to the lunch hall while drying my face.

“Hey Lucie! I thought you weren’t coming back!-hey, are you alright??” Edward's voice carries itself to me, making me come out of the daze I was in and look up. He and his brother are still waiting for me by the table.

“Yeah, yeah. I’m fine. Um, thanks for waiting. What do you have next?” finding my voice I respond to his question and take my stuff out of his arms.

“Um, history. You?”

“Same. Do you have History too Tim?”

“Yeah. You gonna light the way babes?”  I’m starting to get quite used to his jokey way of speaking.

When we get to class, I leave the boys at the front of class and go to my seat. Sitting down slowly and resting my head in my hands, feeling rather dizzy after thinking about my nightmares too much. I don’t even hear where the others are made to sit, or that sir has started the lesson already.

“Hey Lu. You don’t look to good?” Jake’s voice making me jump, I forgot he sat next to me now.

“I’m fine just a bit dizzy”

“Do you want me to tell sir?”

“No! No, I’m fine. Honest” from the front of class our teacher asks for one of the partners on each desk to get a text book from the back of class, I hastily stand, a little too quickly to get it. Anything, just to get away from Jake’s questions. Not only is he one of my best friend’s boyfriend, he’s also Matt’s best friend.

When I get to the textbooks, I feel a little more than dizzy. In fact, the rooms spinning. I grab hold of the ledge to stop myself from falling over and try to drown out all the voices around me. But one manages to break through my barriers: Edwards.

“Lucie? Are you ok? Hey, Lucie can you hear me?”

He sounds genuinely concerned, I mean, given that I only met him today! Trying too hard to respond to him I lose my concentration and all the voices around me come flooding back, with a little too much force and I lose my balance. I feel Edwards hands suddenly slide around my waist and help me sit down. He lightly brushes my hair back from my face and sits next to me. Holding me up right. He also takes my hand and continues talking to me; I watch his lips moving but don’t comprehend what he’s actually saying. Becoming frustrated with myself I give in to the darkness and let myself fall into his arms.
