In the depths of space they say no one can hear you scream, the people who say that have obviously never been in a galactic war. Aboard the Goliath you could practically hear the screams of a thousand fighter pilots as they hurtled at a million miles an hour into the planet below, all the while on fire. This is obviously not the sound you want to hear as you wake up, it was, however, the sound that Lewis woke up too.
He sat up groggily and looked around the room. He was in some sort of mess hall, except for beds, he assumed that this must be a hospital. He probably did a number on himself when he passed out on the arcade machine. He looked down at his clothes, they were no longer the t-shirt and jeans combination that he was wearing earlier, he was now wearing flannel pyjamas, white with blue strips down either of his shoulders. Polished metal coated the wall and floor of the hospital, a plastic suction type material framed the windows. "The windows" Lewis thought to himself, he looked over to them again, there was something odd about them, it was dark, so it was obviously night, but the darkness was odd, it was varying, flickering even, variating between different shades of darkness. Lewis moved himself around so his feet were out of the covers and floating above the floor. Lewis was confused, "Where is everyone?" he thought to himself, "Surely a hospital would have more people in it." His hospital explanation was starting to wear thin. Lewis, without thinking, jumped down on to the floor, when he did this, two things happened. Firstly, a horrifying cold feeling slithered it's way from the floor, up Lewis' feet and all around his body, like walking on a metal floor in the morning without socks, except more so, because space is cold. The second thing that happened was slightly more alerting, but only slightly, an alarm started going off, drowning out any thoughts that Lewis had in his head and filling it only with a louder growing 'Woop Woop' sound. Lewis tried to move, but his feet wouldn't obey him, it was like they were frozen in place, which is exactly what they were, though Lewis himself didn't know that, he only knew that he wasn't going anywhere fast. Over the dramatic siren Lewis heard a door open and then close behind him, then the alarm stopped. Lewis revealed in the silence for a moment and then stopped, he heard a slithering sound coming towards him, Lewis didn't say it out loud, nor did he even really think it, but his subconscious could tell that things were about to get a lot more weird.
After a few minutes a small robot creature appeared in his view, it resembled a small animal, like a wombat or a groundhog, except it was a robot, so it looked less alive. The robot climbed up Lewis' leg and put it's eye up to his. After a few short seconds, the robot let out a faint beep and crawled back down to Lewis' feet. While all this was going on, Lewis was pretty freaked out, as you would be too, if a robot had just climbed up you, physically violated your eyeballs and then climbed down you again, Lewis couldn't do much either, he was pretty well stuck down. The robotic wombat stood at Lewis' feet with it's mouth hanging open, before it's speaker crackled to life "Greetings Captain" it said in it's obvious pre recorded message tone. "There were some difficulties with your life support system, but now you're all back online. You are currently orbiting at 250 miles over the surface of Faao, in the Beta quadrant of Sector DNA42. The ship you are currently on is the Goliath. Your mission briefing will be given in more detail by the commander, good luck Captain, you are our only hope." The audio cut out and Lewis could wiggle his toes again, the heat from the processor of the robot had melted the ice sticking to his feet. After a few seconds of awkward silence, the robot scuttled off again, with Lewis in hot pursuit.
The robot was fast and Lewis in his dazed state was struggling to keep up, however the sound of the robot easily gave the indication of where he was going. Lewis had made the connection that this probably wasn't a hopsital, his first indication was that whatever it was he was on was orbiting at 250 miles up, and was called the Goliath. Lewis didn't know the name of many hospitals but he was pretty sure none of them were named after the biblical giant. "Goliath sounds more like the name of a spac-" Lewis was busy talking to himself and didn't realise before he was too late that he was walking directly in to someone. When i say someone,i don't mean Dave from the office out on a coffee break, nor do i mean anyone even the size of Dave or the same species for that matter. No, Lewis had not walked into any of those, he had to walk into the bulging chest of a 3-headed Blorks.
Blorks are a large species of space creature, known commonly for having more than one head, not that this meant that they were any smarter, quite the opposite in-fact, the intelligence was stored over all of their heads and as such, some of it got lost on the way around. Blorks are also know for their split personalities, another side effect of having multiple heads, Blorks could easily be brimming with rage but still present a logical argument, well, as much as a logical argument that a Blork could make. It was for these reasons that Blorks made excellent military commanders.
The particular Blork that Lewis ran into was called Brüce, but it was pronounced in his native tongue as Huuurrrrgurpbuuurgh, after several years of ridicule he realised that he should just address himself as Brüce. Brüce was the Commander of the star fleet division of the crew of the Goliath, it was a real position, on a business card and everything. not that Brüce used business cards, he usually just called himself a commander and shoved the barrel of a gun in the face of anyone who said otherwise. When Lewis collided into him, he barely felt it, he only noticed that someone was there when he felt the limp body of Lewis on his feet. He promptly picked him up by the back of his shirt and span him around "Ah, Captain Spencer, good to see you're awake!" He practically yelled into Lewis face. "The rest of the squadron are already in the fray, we'll have to get you suited up and ready for the fight!" Brüce grasped Lewis around the waist with his giant hand and shoved him in the nearest televator, he punched in a code for him and shot him up the chute before pursuing him himself.
Meanwhile, Lewis was flipping out. When he ran into Brüce, he didn't see the loveable, heartwarming, stamp-collecting, two headed alien that he was, he saw the gigantic, towering, two-headed alien that was standing before him, who then, when he fell over his massive feet, picked him up by the back of his shirt, screamed at him for a bit in a language that he couldn't understand then shoved him into a small tube where something very odd began to happen. To be quite honest, Lewis wasn't sure what to think, he wanted to be back where he was before, but there was a sense of compelling that drove him on, the rather large question nibbling at the back of his subconscious.
Where the hell am I?
Before Lewis had any time at all to think about that or any other question his feet started to disappear
